So really just two half-decent options unless you find a dead cat bounce possibility from Hamels or Bailey attractive.

I'm happy for Walker. He seemed like a good guy. I would have liked him back on a one year, not so much on a 2 year deal.

Apparently he got a club option for a 3 year. Yuck.

 

I agree with Laika - we end up with Porcello at these costs. JO would be a solid fit, but he may get 3 years $45M if Walker got 2 years $20M + a player option.

Matz or Paxton is a better question. Paxton has obvious risks, but he was a one year gamble. Matz at 5.2 or Paxton at 8.5. They are both 1 year bets. I'm taking Paxton all day long. Maybe were closer to payroll limits for the season than I realize though.

Will be if his arm falls off. For someone who's thrown like 50 innings combined in the last 3 years - you can see why he'd want that included as an option.

Sounds like a very reasonable contract for Walker. If he's good as he last showed, you got a bargain for 3 years. If he sucks, only on the hook for 2 seasons.
