It was really the only outcome possible.

OMG yeah. No choice

Sadly it's all over sports talk radio this morning

First time they've talked about baseball in months. Pretty sad.

The James Harden trade got talked about day after day for hours and hours

The Lindor Carrasco trade and the Padres trades were barely a side note anywhere other than MLB Network

George Springer, welcome to Toronto

? Why. Welcome to NY Mets. Mets have more incentive to sign him now to change the narrative. I suspect they add 15 million to their offer and he's a Met in the next couple of days.

I love baseball but the sport does a horrible job marketing it superstars. Most people wouldn't know if they walked by Mike Trout, which is INSANE. Although it doesn't help that a quarter of its stars don't speak English lol.

Also doesn't help that the game itself is slow, along with its offseasons. Their draft is a joke as it may take 4 years to even see the players mentioned here in the Majors. Then there are many unnecessary complicated aspects like the Rule 4 draft/international spending/posting periods. Oh and all the old heads who refuse to want to change the game in any way because of its "purity."

If i didn't grow up watching/playing the sport, there is 0 chance I'd be following it now. Everyone I know makes fun of me for it but the love is too deep lol.

Most of player marketing is done by 3rd parties, not the leagues

Then 3rd parties deem that baseball stars are not worth marketing and there must be a reason for that...

I was only objecting to the saying that baseball does a horrible job marketing their players. I do think there’s all sorts of other things going on to validate your general point but we’ve covered it few times on here recently so I’ll leave it at that

Knew that was happening. In this day and age, you can't keep a guy like that around.

A tough time for the pervert community lol.

This guy is disgusting but why is the conversation around the word "foreign" equating to "desperate to get into the United States and the guy took advantage of that"? She could be from Japan or South Korea which aren't exactly dick-suck-for-green-card level of countries to emigrate from. Latin America, maybe depending on the country.

I forget where I saw it, but I read a good article on why superstar trades are so much more appealing in other sports.

In a nutshell, James Harden makes a so-so team an instant championship contender. A trade for a guy like that has a massive impact. If Mike Trout gets traded to the Pirates tomorrow, it doesn't even change their playoff odds. Individual players in MLB don't have nearly the same impact. The winner of the offseason is often a huge flop. That is somewhat unique to baseball.

All true points

Plus the NBA is in season and yes, in the NBA one player can make a night and day difference. In the NFL only the QB can. In baseball yes one player never moves the needle that much.

But as previously said, its always NFL NFL NFL NFL NBA NBA College Sports Baseball

And the notion these girls come over completely naive to how guys work. Men in other countries are even bigger pigs than Americans generally speaking. I’ve talked to my fair share of foreign chicks to know this

Final details on the Hendriks contract

TODAY: Hendriks’ contract is broken down by MLB Network’s Jon Heyman (via Twitter). The closer will receive a $1MM signing bonus, $11MM in 2021, $13MM in 2022, $14MM in 2023, and then the $15MM option/buyout for 2024. The option will automatically vest if Hendriks is traded.

Interesting that the $15M option in the final year is even more of a poison pill than we already knew about if he gets traded. Hendriks' agent did very well for their client.

You also have to think other teams were coming in with similar if not more aggressive AAVs for fewer years or less guaranteed money for that fourth year and that's what it took for the White Sox to land him.

If we are able to get Yates and Hand for almost the same price as Hendriks, that would be a massive win. Let's see how the rest of free agency unfolds to see how that contract will fare.

Do you mean in AAV? The total of Hand + Yates' contracts might be like half of what Hendriks was guaranteed.

Jon Lester to Washington Nationals

1 year deal

Jon Lester had a .636 winning percentage and a 3.64 ERA with the Red Sox.

He also had a .636 winning percentage and a 3.64 ERA with the Cubs.

Free-agent left-hander José Quintana in agreement with the Angels, pending physical, sources tell @TheAthletic.

The Ray signing for the exact same dollars looks great in hindsight. He projects for 2.7 WAR, while Quintana projects for less than half of that. Nice read of the market on our part

Quintana's projections are depressed by missed time due to an absolutely freak injury washing dishes, and he pitched well in a small sample post-injury. If he's recovered this and the Charlie Morton signing are the finest moves of the offseason.
