It's not just Springer. Bauer and Realmuto are still on the table.

I'm not super stoked about either of those guys though, Bauer is going to get more money than I think he's worth, and Realmuto is a solution looking for a problem, rather than an area of real need.

If the Mets really are out on the big FA left on the market I like the Jays chances of acquiring one of the big 4.

Springer seems like the best bet out of the 4 since it was supposed to be a "2 team race" for him. DJL and Realmuto can just re-sign with their current teams and Bauer can go to LAA. Players should get a little more nervous now that one of the bigger players in the market might be out for any big moves.

Every major free agent is still available, and I'm sure there are trades out there that we don't know about that could happen at any moment. Would have been nice to get Lindor but there are many options available to improve the Jays, and seemingly few bidders. I'd be very surprised if we didn't land one of Bauer/Realmuto/Springer/DJLM.

I don't think DJ is leaving the Yankees, and Realmuto is probably sticking with the Phillies, but yeah, if the Mets are sitting out, then the Jays have a real shot at one of Springer (likely) or Bauer (less likely due to more competition). There might be outside shot of luring DJ away from NY if the Jays offer a 5th year, but not sure they want to do that (and they probably shouldn't).

I'm a Stroman fan, but not sure what his motivation was with that tweet. Seems like he's deleted it so common sense must have kicked in.

Just hope our front office proves him wrong. Theyve done a good job of building a solid young core but being able to surround tbem with the right pieces requires a different skillset. Lets hope they can step up to take advantage of the next 4 years or so of having cheap/controllable talent.

You bet.

To be fair, you get heavy odds for picking the Jays won't be able to get said player. Sugano just showed what happens when the Jays are the leading candidate to sign you They will refuse to get off their number. Now let's sign Springer to shut me up lol.

There is maybe a better fit for us then Lindor. Hey if they are in a selling mood I will take a third baseman. I have no prob with Bo at SS

They won't move him yet, hell, teams don't have the pieces for that stud.

Yeah you’d have to imagine they’d want Bo coming back as headliner so it’d be kinda pointless

So, Kim and Sugano, two of the guys I really wanted, are out... So like...

Springer or I'll cry?

I'm with you man

Springer to the Jays

DJL Yankees

Realmuto Phils

Bauer No real guess

and further on the Mets:

New York is in the $190MM payroll vicinity at the moment, and it would like to open the season around $5MM to $10MM under the $210MM mark, Martino reports. The Mets have been tied throughout the offseason to Springer, arguably the top position player on the open market. The former Astro wants a deal in the $175MM range, but the Mets have been short of that at around five years and $150MM, according to Martino. The Blue Jays, who have also been in on Springer, are in the five-year, $115MM range, Martino relays.

If this is true, we're actually not in the market for any player and are bargain bin shopping. The difference between those contracts is MASSIVE to the point its not even a race.

We're like that guy in fantasy sports who throws out a bunch of crappy trade offers with no real likelihood of having a trade accepted.

Yeah but 5/125 was pretty much a fair projection. Basically this is saying he got greedy with the Mets like JTR did and they both may have cost themselves $25-40m

So what you’re saying is Springer/Realmuto could play out like the Edwin situation, but in the Jays favor this time?

Yes exactly. Sometimes the teams that wait win and the players that sign early win.

Well... yes but I would say in “someone’s favor”.. wouldn’t be so bold to say Jays

Ya but it wouldn't be a shocker to see other teams join the sweepstakes after seeing the best offer currently out there.
