Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 So who we cutting from the 40-man? I think I'd guess Waguespack. Castro and Waguespack, would be my guess. More of these to come...
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 I didn't count Vlad, as so far he is name only. If Vlad becomes the guy we thought, then that changes the equation. As of now I was only considering. Teo, LGR, Bichette, Biggio, Springer and a hypothetical Brantley. lol....
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 Just going through the teams for potential available SP. Colorado (Marquez, J. Gray) Tigers (Boyd) Red Sox (Eovaldi) Royals (Duffy, Keller) Rangers (Gibson) Cardinals (C-Mart) Cubs (Hendricks) Pirates (Taillon) Reds (S. Gray) D'Backs (Bumgarner) Who do you target? Hendricks and Bryant, or German/either Gray. Interesting question, though. I assume they're going FA.
Ray Verified Member Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 Signing George Springer (projected for 3.9 fWAR) will make the Blue Jays the 4th best projected team in the majors by fWAR.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 Good question Jim... I think Kendrick might be best cost vs reward. Tailion and a few more from the Pirates. I think Gray from the Reds might cost too much. Not interested in Gray from Colorado. I might try targeting a few younger just feet wet or near MLB ready the next tier down in orgs like Miami, KC, Cleveland, SD, Pirates.. I think Miami and KC have some surplus I like.. In other words, instead of using an LGR jr to get one SP, package him and get two or three lesser guys who are near MLB ready or have dipped their toes. *Hendricks* No way, young SP's won't be moved from re-building teams, I don't think so anyway. SD might be a possibility.

Out of that group, Sonny Gray. He fits what this front office likes with pitchers (lots of spin rate) and has a great contract. Helps that he's on the Reds who aren't run particularly well so the cost may not be too bad.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 Hendricks and Bryant, or German/either Gray. Interesting question, though. I assume they're going FA. Hendricks would be great. He has 4 years of control at reasonable cost. I just don't see the Cubs moving him. I keep circling back to Price in my mind. Gonsolin is the Dodgers 6th starter. They have roughly 5 mil in tax space. Now the Dodgers can easily blow past the tax level, but they've been under the last 3 years. It almost seems like a point of pride for management to stay under and have a super team. Clearing out 16 mil would give them 21 mil to get a Semien orTurner. Next year they have Kershaw and Seager to deal with, Bellinger the next and Walker Buehler and Urias the year after. The Dodgers may have no desire to move Price. I'd make the call though.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 *Hendricks* No way, young SP's won't be moved from re-building teams, I don't think so anyway. SD might be a possibility. It is difficult, but Miami has done it two years in a row. They are deep and need offense. Musgrove is not an old man. Indians want an OF and catcher and and still have a lot of pitching even after moving Clevinger and Carassco.. SD still has tons.. A guy like Morejon with no spot in the rotation..
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 lol.... 66th in wRC+.. Willy Adames had a higher wRC+ than Vlad. He will probably get there, but he is not an elite hitter yet, to consider when comparing elite offenses.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 Some guys on MLB radio are saying *9/10 Brantley goes to TO, the issue is only 2 yrs vs 3yrs.. Other guys saying 7/10... Regardless, seems high probability with only a an issue of years... FWIW *One of the guys supposedly has contacts in his agency..

He has ridonculously elite exit velocity, and is already an above average hitter in the MLB at 21.

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 A lot of speculation that if the Jays do a deal for an SP from the Reds, it would include Moustakas coming back to play 3b and to eat some of his $$. Not a bad thing at all...
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 So what does TO do about 3B now. Lots of interesting ways to go. Go get a vet 3B short term. Bryant, Turner, Seager. Go get a 2B and move Biggio to 3rd. Go get a SS and move Bichette to 3rd. Lots of SS/2B's out there. Semien, Wong, Tommy, Didi, Simmons. and then there is the Vlad factor. I don't believe in it, but it IS out there. Frankly I think our money needs to go to the rotation, so hopefully there is a deal to be had later in the off-season to help round out the IF. Having the flexibility to move guys around sure helps when looking for a bargain.

Not a bad thing at all... If Moose significantly drags down the cost to acquire Grey or Castillo, then I'm OK with this - otherwise, 3 years at $48M is little too long and rich for our short term fix at 3rd. Curious to see where this all lands.

I thought the question was, who has the the top offenses in baseball, or if we signed Brantley tomorrow. I didn't take the question to be who projects to have in the future or for age group etc. If we did that we need to include guys like Kelenic, JRod, Vaughn etc.. Not saying Vlad will not get there or that for a 21 yr old he is not decent. But he so far has not been someone that moves the needle overall to this point. The Jays have 4-5 players that are better hitters (so far) then Vlad.

"SO FAR" the best player in baseball in 2045 hasn't done s***, but that has no bearing on the best offences of 2045 lists (which probably exist on some weird site somewhere...)
Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 I don't see why. I mean, he might want more than they're willing to pay, but they have lots of room on the payroll to fit both if they wanted to. I think, if anything, this means we are more in on Bauer. Bauer must see that the FO isn't f***ing around, and is trying to win the right way; solid core and great FA adds with money to spend when necessary. By the sounds of it, from pitchers like Tijuan Walker, the pitching analytics the Jays use are top shelf, and a smart guy like Bauer would appreciate it. But who knows.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 some rando I was listening to on YouTube (desperate for content after the signing) said he didn't think Bauer would play with Springer. Anyone know if there is legit beef there, or is this just an 'Astro's were cheaters' thing.

Bauer will play for whichever competent organization offers him the best contract.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 not sure if this is a typo and he meant Springer, or if he has a really good source Could be...but you'd think as someone that's verified, he'd want to correct himself if he made a mistake.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 Haha. Not sure why he would even mean Springer in that context though, so it doesn't seem like a typo. Toronto is going to add like, four more good free agents, aren't they...

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 It's also weirdly matter-of-fact. You'd think he would break the news himself in a tweet on his timeline rather than nonchalantly dropping a bomb in a random reply chain.

Yeah the original tweet mentioned Brantley twice, Springer not even mentioned in the thread. Just seems like a lot of time has passed for only one guy out of ATL to know.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 I'm thinking at least two more And pull off one trade Nope, four. Brantley, infielder, Brad Hand, SP.
