Depends on where you think Austin Martin ends up. Most think he's the CF of the future, with Groshans & Martinez battling it out for 3B. Also seen analysts tease that he could easily debut in the majors this year.

The lack of a minor league season is a problem

Does he play mostly IF or CF this year if there is a minor league season? So far in college he's played more 3B/SS/2B than OF

Surely he was learning a position at the alternate site. They played games every day.

Yeah Bauer doesn't hide the fact that what he's doing is entirely to build his "brand". I actually like that and hope more players do it because my god MLB off seasons are boring as s*** so players engaging with fans to get them excited during the winter is a good thing. But I wouldn't take anything Bauer says about specific teams seriously. He is trolling everyone to gain more followers and get more people talking about him.

Are there morons out there that are actually entertained by how Bauer is handling his Free Agency? Personally to me, he comes across annoying and attention seeking.

I'm so tired of him acting as if he has a had multiple years of pitching at an elite level.

I guess good on him though if there are actually fans out there that are falling for it

Yes

Just no recorded game stats to look at

So no idea where they had Martin practicing

I sure wish we had more coverage of the alternate site. That was a big missed opportunity for Sportsnet.

Have a look at the fangraphs pitching WAR leaders for the last 3 seasons combined. Bauer is far from a one year wonder.

I’d say it’s at least 50/50 like/dislike. Prob more likes even, so not really fair to call people morons that don’t like it... but the schtick isn’t for everyone

There’s going to be more Bauer’s and Stroman’s as the league gets younger and more accepting of personalities/branding. It’s going to piss a lot of baseball purists off, but about time baseball gets some personalities that put themselves out there. I personally don’t care for Bauer but I hope he keeps doing what he’s doing. The stuff he puts out on YouTube, especially the roundtables he does with other players is great. But yes his personality is going to be polarizing.

The Decision!

Signings are usually broken on Twitter. Why do I get the feeling Bauer will do a youtube live to announce his decision? He'll go with the top 5 going through each team with commentary revealing the team he ultimately signs with last.

And he'll probably get the MLB network to pay him for the rights to air it on TV too.

The Jays best not be signing that Haruki Nishikawa today, lol. That guy has no shot in the MLB.

OF depth would be nice. Maybe he'll sign an MiLB deal

We're in luck - he's returning to Japan.

Same, I'd like that s***.

I read a scouting report that projects him to be a very solid #3 starter. That is exactly what we need. If we grab him, and a guy like Tanaka we'd have a pretty decent SP squad. I would rather sign two 2nd tier SP than Bauer.

It has been reported Tanaka wants to remain a Yankee or potentially return to play back in Japan. I would take Paxton though.

That report has been debunked.

The media is shameless. The lead story with big photo on ESPN NBA is an article titled “James Harden Blockbuster is Coming” but when you read it, there’s no néw info and it mostly talks about the Claw trade 2 years ago

The media is a business.

National Enquirer was a successful business based on BS sensationalism. No surprise that similar tactics are used by others.

The media has forgotten that they're supposed to report on the news, not invent it.

Opinion/conjecture has always been part of media content, along with actual news.

Yeah, but it's usually stated as such (which is fine). Today's conjecture is presented as facts supported by "sources", which seem to be the voices in the journalist's head.

Along with the prevalence of “clickbait” which has really exploded in the last 10 years as the internet and 24/7 news cycle have grown
