I assume the Indians have to give us permission to discuss an extension before a trade is made. Is it that permission that drives up the prospect cost? or the actual extension? I mean it's in Lindor's best interests to have the Jays keep their prospects. Couldn't he just say he won't sign one prior to the trade, the Jays give up less and then he agrees to sign one a few months later? Or would that be collusion?

Really hope we don't trade for Lindor.

1) We already have a great shortstop.

2) We have many areas of greater need: mostly pitching.

3) I hate giving up a bunch of prospects for a 1-year deal.

4) We're not ready to compete yet.

5) Biden's tax plan is gonna make the Blue Jays a lot more competitive in attracting new players in the near future.

What a dumb post

It's only collusion if we don't ask permission from the Indians to speak with him. They can discuss parameters and get a feel for what he will accept.

The cardinals aren't going anywhere. I wonder if they would hit the reset button and trade Flaherty? He's got three years of control. It would cost a lot, but I wonder if they would make him available for the right package.

In that division? I highly doubt it.

You're probably right. They do lose a lot of their salary after next year too. I just look at the money they are spending next year and their team and it's pretty gross.

The Jays could have had Flaherty for Donaldson. Hmmmmm maybe we could offer them Merryweather.

That's not true. Per MLB:

"When the Braves agreed to a one-year, $23 million deal with Donaldson around Thanksgiving, the Cardinals were denied their bid to land the former American League MVP Award winner. They attempted to acquire the veteran third baseman from the Blue Jays during the 2017 season, but they were never willing to include Jack Flaherty in the trade. Another attempt was made to complete a waiver deal in August ’18."

The Sportsnet article is discussing a trade during the offseason, whereas the first quote is discussing a trade during the season.

That may explain the contradiction or it may not.

What impact, if any, do you think no minor league season will impact deals where prospects are involved? Was there really any good way to evaluate other teams prospects?

BINGO! we have entered a completely uncharted territory in modern times. Big winners and losers are likely to result!

Like, for example, an Elvis Luciano may come out as a dominating beast in 2021. FUN!! times (hopefully)......

with no minor league season here's hoping we see a large uptick in baseball fundamentals from the younger Jays.

Yesterday, Arden Zwelling on the FAN590 Good Show said that people in the Jays org felt like they made the best offer for Lindor last offseason.

I would love for the Jays to land Lindor, and then sign Springer and one of Walker or Odorizzi (maybe both?) to round out the rotation. Perhaps that's taking on a bit too much salary than they have budgeted (probably around $60 mil, plus a Lindor extension, if possible), but they would have a deep rotation, totally upgrade the defence and have a really tough lineup.

That would pretty much be the dream offseason.

If we had a choice between Bauer/Bradley Jr or Springer/Walker, which combination would you take?

I'd go with Springer/Walker, as they would be cheaper and you wouldn't have the potential "character" issues that Bauer reportedly brings. Nothing against Bauer, and if ends up in Toronto I'd be super happy, but I know Jays management puts a high value on the clubhouse culture and I wonder how Bauer would fit in there. Seems like Stroman was dealt in part because of this (my own speculation), and Bauer seems to have a somewhat similar personality type to Stroman that the Jays seem to want to avoid.

If they had a problem with his character then they probably wouldn't have traded for him in Cleveland.

Bauer is a white Stroman. Just a bit taller and with better pitches.

They will both create headaches for their respective teams by constantly spouting off on Twitter for sure, but go about doing so quite differently. Stroman is typically busy playing the hypersensitive short man victim routine, while Bauer seems to get kicks out of trolling anybody in his path, whether it's Rob Manfred, the Houston Astros, random fans, etc.

What are Bauer's character issues, specifically, if you don't mind me asking?

Well, tantrums on the field (chucking the ball into centre field), trolling on social media, stuff like that. I don't have any really issue with most of his behaviour, but from my perspective he seems like someone that may not fit into the front office's player mold.

Although, as Grant77 pointed out, they did trade for him in Cleveland, so perhaps I'm way off base.

Way off base, mate. I get the theory, but not for a guy like Bauer. I've never heard anything of note in a clubhouse. Dude just where's his heart on his sleeve, including the trolling and his massive platform that continues to grow. He apologized promptly to skip, and likely paid a hefty fine in kangaroo court, I can't remember anything else from him on the field?

I'd call this a must listen/watch...

Atkins was on Tim and Sid tonight, I just missed it, sounds like I missed some juicy stuff, I can't find anything on their network yet, or I'm searching in the wrong place. Hmm...

Edit: Found it, lol @ Canook... :P

Yassss... already love what I'm hearing. I think I love this FO.

Lots of topics and questions answered to certain degrees concerning discussions on BJMB, pretty informative.

Perhaps, and to be clear, I'd love to have Bauer on the Jays. I just wonder if the FO see him as a fit personality wise. Dan Shulman raised some issues in an interview here: https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/video/shulman-thinks-blue-jays-real-long-shots-sign-bauer/
