But to get back on topic, let's just hope for goodness sake that the plan to play at Oriole Park is approved.

If it doesn't work out with the Orioles, I'm sure they'll keep dogging some other teams until someone takes the bait

Well it isn't far off deep down inside. The truth of the matter is, one can't be a Canadian who loves Canada without having extreme hatred of the US, it's just how things go. You can really see how Canadians have been acting regarding this whole thing, regarding the huge superiority involving how COVID-19 is being handled and how they have finally barred the people they hate from our country.

You don't believe me? Ever taken a good look at that public art at Lakeshore and Bathurst, a historically inaccurate representation of what happened at the Battle of York.

Even Jays fans at games seem to have this attitude, yes they are usually a minority, but I've always found it extremely silly how some bring Canadian flags to games. Despite the team being full of US players, the fan thinks that this is Canada facing the US. I've even read a scholarly article that took this a step further, regarding Blue Jays nationalism, in how "OK Blue Jays" is the baseball song of Canada while "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" is the song of the US, let's not forget this article was written when the Expos still played in Montreal but I digress.

But I'll leave it with this question, while both I see as silly, why is it morally acceptable for people to drape themselves with Canadian flags at Blue Jays games, while it is not morally acceptable when a road game featuring the Jays has fans in the road stadium chanting "U-S-A".

Go check out CBC comments regarding the Blue Jays and most have the don't give a s*** attitude regarding them.

I also ask a rhetorical question, let's suppose the US new caseload daily averaged around 5,000 cases per day, would you be more comfortable with opening the border then to non-essential travel? I'm sure most Canadians would still want that border closed because of prejudices they hold against the US.

The musings of a maniac.

I'm very comfortable in saying that you're speaking solely for yourself in this regard, and not anyone else here.

Boxy and SG, whilst treading the edges of Blue Jays commentary, are absolutely right (wing AND correct). From out Alberta way, the GTA is a cesspool of anti-US sentiment. But illogical fans discount the reality that the Jays are part of a U.S. league and have an awful lot of U.S. components.

Although the anti-US and TDS cannot be eliminated, I remember hiring workers in Kyiv (Ukraine) a few years ago. In their interview sessions, I explained what a beautiful country Ukraine is - reminded me of Toronto/suburbs in the 70's/80's, but that Canada WAS the best country on Earth. And I told each person that a major difference was that we benefited from a great neighbor (the U.S.) that worked with us, protected us, and didn't interfere with any of the crazy socialist things that bubbled up in eastern Canada. They, on the other hand, had Russia as a neighbor. Enough said. And I told them that, if they were hired, learned English, and earned their permanent residencies, they would be the luckiest people in their city - because, eventually, Russian tanks were going to roll across that border again. These discussions were in 2003 - and I was right.

We should have a leader that puts Canada first, like the U.S.'s current leader. And while I cheer for the Jays from afar - some of the liberal commenters on this board are prime examples why Canada is doomed (whether the west is smart enough to separate or not) and Toronto doesn't deserve a winning Jays team.

Trudeau is an absolute idiot - and stopping the Jays from playing at home is another proof of that... I don't comment much - as Boxcar and SG speak for me and my ilk - but here's a great quote from the Toronto Sun that says it all:

To say Trudeau honestly believes his Messianic affectation is beneficial to the nation, suggests he does not know any better and believes his own cow poo. It acknowledges tacitly that this person is thick as two short planks. My analysis is yes, he has his mother's brains, but he also has his father's ruthlessness ambition and superiority. To be stupid and cunning is a rare phenomenon in nature, but it does happen. People do not look past the stupidity into the cesspool of ruthless ambition and manipulation. For those wondering how he gets into office forever, and ever, and..... two factors: he stuffs ballot boxes with devoted immigrants, bleeds our tax money out to every d. cause involved with refugees and some immigrant groups, so it pays them to keep him in power. Actually heard one candid fellow from Nigeria say, " I will always vote for him because he was good to us. Anyway, where I come from PMs are much worse than the things he does". That is all he has to do folks, unless some hero rids us of him because he will be voted in by the greedy, unethical and untutored in democracy , all snuggled up to the vacuous Utopian ideologues who believe his smoke and mirrors. God help the rest of us. Kathleen Adamson

Huh??? So you contradict yourself in the very next paragraph here. Cool lol.

I can't keep track. Is politics banned or not?? Another reason Trudeau's decision to ban the Jays was awful. Did he consider that this decision would bring politics back to BJMB?? Hard to avoid the politics when the Prime Minister bans the team.

I think blaming Cuomo for the deaths in long term care homes is misguided. He was the first to deal with this, and was told by his "experts" that the hospitals were going to be a war zone (they were) and he needed 30000 extra rooms and ventilators (that part was not true). He ended up trying to find extra hospital rooms everywhere and it wasn't understood how rapidly the virus would spread in LTC. So he obviously would of made different decisions with the information we've learned in the last few months.

As far as I can tell Cuomo isn't a pussy and understands the issues. Unlike Justin and the PA Governor he won't make a decision for show, he will only care if the decision significantly effects the number of virus cases.

If the Jays playing will increase virus cases by between .000 and .001 percent, then Cuomo will let it happen, he's concerned about the big picture not little optics here and there. Wear a mask, don't crowd the bars and Cuomo likes you... doesn't give a s*** about 3 extra virus cases on top of the few hundred a day he knows are going to occur anyway.

I don't agree, in regards to doing things for show. Cuomo is all about doing things for show.

Also, remember that NYC didn't shut down or clean the Subways until April, I think.

Anyway, I wasnt trying to be political just giving an opinion based on past events as to whether or not Cuomo would try to block the Jays playing in Buffalo and right now, I think he'd take any opportunity to make it look like he's making things safer, even if it's solely for optics.

Idk if he's quite as ruthless or ambitious as Fidel Castro tbh

Are we not supposed to discuss how politicians are dicking the Jays around, sometimes for no discernible reason? Kind of unavoidable.

With all due respect, what kind of dumbf***ery is this? I can understand hating Trump & his ilk for how they've handled the pandemic but to hate an entire country for the actions of a political party seems a bit far fetched.

It annoys me when some Americans play the superiority card especially when it's aimed at Canadians but we can usually outsmart & outwit them as to why we feel Canada is a better place to live. As for players, who really GAF where they live or were born? It's not like the Jays have overlooked better Canadian players in favour of Americans. It's kinda like the draft, the propriety should be the best player available.

If anything, Americans have been very vocal about how lucky we are to have the leadership we've had w/r/t progressive issues & the handling of Covid. As for the USA chants when playing their teams, meh. I figure it's just their insecurity at having passionate Jays fans in their stadiums cheering on our team, or the fact that the Jays are winning.

Americans have a superiority complex

Canadians have an inferiority complex

Americans aren't knowledgable of issues outside their borders

Canadians disproportionately care about issues of occuring in the US

Also when keeping in mind who "handled" the virus better, I'm not really sure what that means. The US is far more densely populated than Canada. New York is incredibly densely populated, tons of people living in apartments, dependence on subway, etc. I don't really think Canada vs. US is an apples to apples comparison and I find it irritating that many Canadians use it as an opportunity to dunk on the US.

That's all I have to say. I find it hard to criticize politicians for not reacting quickly to the virus (almost everyone on the West was very slow) because it was really hard to envision us ending up in this scenario. What annoys me is politicians flinging s*** at one another over it when none of them took this seriously even in early March.
