connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Trade for Snell. Sign Springer. Let’s get it But I agree I’d be surprised if Mets come up empty. Just hope most of you don’t get your wish and we sign glove-first Wong and Bradley
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 I’d bet Jays, along with most other teams, definitely make an actual offer for Snell. Here’s to hoping they like SWR
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 But also, the Mets suck. It hasn’t quite reached the Knicks level of suck though. They can still prob sell hope

Just hope most of you don’t get your wish and we sign glove-first Wong and Bradley I don't care that much for Wong or Bradley but the question was who do you think the Jays sign. Wong seems most likely.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 But also, the Mets suck. DeGrom, Thor mid-season next year, Stroman, Diaz, Alonso, Smith, Conforto, McNeil, JD Davis etc.. Add a FA SP or two and Springer and not a bad core..
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 (edited) But also, the Mets suck. The Mets won't suck in 2021 most likely, but they are a harder long term sell even if they do spend money this winter. Syndergaard (recovering from TJS), Stroman, and Matz are free agents after 2021. So is Conforto. Nimmo and Lugo after 2022. deGrom can opt out after 2022 (he'll be 34 by then so who knows if he will). Their farm system got Brodie'd the last two years which doesn't help. So yeah, if Springer chooses the Mets, which he very well could, it won't be because of team situation. Edited December 2, 2020 by glory

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Eddie Rosario is up for grabs. We don't have the need, but some team should be all over a possible 3 win player at that price.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Lost me at Stroman:) Trust me, I am NOT a Stroman fan.. However, baseball execs seem to think he is worth almost $19 Million a yr, so who am I to disagree...

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 The Twins have placed outfielder Eddie Rosario on outright waivers, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. The club previously tried to find a taker for Rosario in a trade, but it wasn’t able to do so, according to Rosenthal. Rosario has until Wednesday to join another team on waivers. If not, the Twins could non-tender Rosario or try to re-sign him for less than the $8.6MM to $12.9MM he’s projected to receive in arbitration this winter. Rosario is slated to go through arbitration for the final time in the coming months.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Rosario could be a very good value pickup for someone if he ends up being non tendered
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Rosario could be a very good value pickup for someone if he ends up being non tendered He's basically Randall Grichuk, but younger and the market values that player at about 5 or 6 mil now.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Tommy Pham is probably going to be non tendered. Huge injury risks, but great OPB and other talents. He would fit nicely if healthy and IF we need to trade one of our OF in a deal. Does TO have any good strip clubs? I was at Solid Gold years ago, wasn't too impressed. I have heard but never been, that Montreal has better. The part of the whole Pham story I don't understand is that he is now suing the strip club for basically not providing a safe environment/not taking corrective actions for a foreseeable problem. In the suit he is requesting large sum of monetary damages claiming he will not be able to continue his career and loss of potential income due to injuries..?? That plus the wrist surgery.. High risk, but high reward signing if Jays can do it..

It's not a high risk signing if he gets non-tendered and is willing to sign for something close to his projected arbitration salary, which is $8M. I don't think that dollar figure is high enough for him to get non-tendered. It's not like the Padres have a rock-solid alternative OF ready to slide in. If he does get cut loose he'd probably be #2 on my OF pref list, just behind Springer.

Stroman obviously isn't nearly as good as he thinks he is but he's objectively a very good MLB pitcher and probably a #3 on a good team.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 (edited) But also, the Mets suck. They seem to find ways to lose and seem to have excessive off field type problems They have a bullpen full of expensive guys who used to be good And a starting rotation that has big potential but is never healthy And no good overall players at premium positions like C and CF Edited December 2, 2020 by G-Snarls
EZe Verified Member Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 If the Mets sign Springer that probably makes Nimmo available. Left handed bat with reliable high OBP that can cover CF. Wouldn’t be surprised if the Mets also pursue Gary Sanchez seems on brand.

I can see thousands of Yankees fans going to a Mets game just to boo him. (There may or not be fans in 2021 BYKWIM)
EZe Verified Member Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 That would be best. I just feel often times these reclamation projects get overvalued in the same city with dreams of sticking it to the former team. Feels like it’s a motive for both the player and team.

This makes sense (Nimmo) because with the emergence of Smith the Mets have position obstacles and Springer would just add to that. I wish there was some scenario we can keep LGjr, Teo, dump Grichuk and add a Springer, Pham, Nimmo etc. *EDIT: Actually, I forgot they just freed up Cano's spot.. But still makes sense..

Dom Smith and JD Davis are total disasters in the outfield and McNeil should realistically be playing 2B with the occasional corner OF start to give players a day off. Springer, Nimmo and Conforto can all coexist in one outfield, although neither of them are true CF anyway. The Mets are probably closely monitoring the DH situation in the NL so they can stop bleeding runs in LF and just plop one of those guys or Pete Alonso at DH.

There is no need to get rid of any of LGJ, Teo, or Grichuk if one of those players are added. Plenty of at bats to go around even if no one gets injured.
