Jed Hoyer is really making it seem like Bryant or Schwarber could be non-tendered or dealt for a pittance.

I’d be happy to take Darvish’s salary off their hands for the low price of also Kris Bryant.

BREAKING: Charlie Morton has agreed to terms on a one-year, $15 million deal with the Braves. The deal was negotiated by Andrew Lowenthal and BB Abbott of Jet Sports. It’s the largest free agent contract so far this offseason.

If he actually planned to play the entire 2020 season, it's pretty pathetic that the Rays couldn't offer him the QO.

I figured they'd get him after reading the rumours. AA has done a nice job shoring up that rotation.

I've loved AA's approach to the FA market in his Atlanta tenure. Ozuna, Donaldson, Keuchel, now Smyly and Morton, all on one year deals. Ended up wasting money on Hamels, but that's a lot of wins added with very little risk.

Some demon possess the BTS account? Seriously though, I often imagined having that efficient FO, but imagine having that ownership, yuck!

Braves have been aggressive so far, and the Mets will not be far behind, aiming at the best available players. A source says about the Mets targeting more more than one of the big four of the winter (Springer, Realmuto, Bauer, Lindor): "It's all true."

Man - the Mets really benefit from having the permanent DH in the NL.

Has that been announced, universal DH's a go?? I don't think so, unless I've been living under a rock. :P

No - I'm just assuming things. Pretty nice to wake up and realize you no longer have to force Dom Smith in LF...

The Astros are apparently looking to trade Correa. The Jays haven’t had that level of douche since JD was traded so I doubt they’ll be interested but that’s another rental SS on the trade block.

Yeah it’s kind of like the Bryant situation. Big name but not a guy where a team is going to hammer out a long-term deal on.. so it’s just basically a one year deal.

Strange, without an in-house replacement unless Aledmys. Maybe they have a deal in principle with a guy like Didi or someone.

Agree. Correa is a paycheque player I believe.

Astros are not looking good if Springer goes, Verlander shelved, Yuli getting old, etc. Right now their OF is Tucker, McCormick, and Straw. Farm is ranked 28th.

Bregman, the Stros just lost Springer/Brantley and Gerrit Cole for nothing as they were contenders, they need to retool at some point. Maybe they've decided that time is now.

Still a decent 2nd core there or on the way. Tucker and Alvarez are both dynasty pieces. Bregman locked in. They have a young SP core out of nowhere too (Urquidy, Valdez, Javier). They grow backend relievers on trees.

Lots off the books after 2021. Altuve might be the only sandbag.

Maybe a super skinny rebuild?

Man...I would have really like to get Morton at 1 and 15 for the Jays.

Me too but he never would have agreed to play for the Jays especially for the same money

Eveyone has said he wants to play close to his home in Florida

Agreed

Bad on Tampa

Great sign for Atlanta

Edit: Wait. Tampa didn't even have to give him the 18.9M QO. They declined a 15M club option on a contract that they signed him to. EVEN WORSE. Any other team would have kept him.

There is a chance the Jays could be playing in Dunedin, but they probably want to play in Toronto and who knows what things will be looking like in April.

Yes but as usual the Rays have help coming from the farm. McKay, McClanahan, Ryan. They will find a way.

I think the entire league would've liked to sign Morton at 1/15M.
