Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 I'm a no too. I just think it's wrong to completely dismiss him without some discussion. He's earned the debate. Yeah, he should get the 5 votes.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 Mark Buehrle is trending on FG, I checked why, and writers are talking about him for the HOF, that's silly. He had a very good career, and has done some great things, but... Really is too bad the Jays didn't get him 2 more innings in 2015 so he could finish his career with 15 straight 200+ inning seasons. I was originally a huge White Sox fan back in the early 2000's and I always loved MB. I'd actually forgotten how good he was for the Jays. Very solid over 3 seasons at the end of his career. Great career, but he's no HOFer.

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 Put it another way though, MB or Harold Baines? Who do you take for the Hall?

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 Baldilocks cracks me up, lol.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 Red Sox re sign Eduardo Rodriguez for 1 year 8.3M
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 I'm all for people who did phenomenal things getting into the Hall, even if they don't quite have the traditional career WAR totals. Buehrle string of 200+ IP and 30+ start seasons in the 2000s is pretty amazing. I'm not sure he should get in and not sure that I would even vote for him, but he's be far from the least deserving guy in there (as much as I don't like that argument).
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 How many wins does Burly have? That should end this debate quickly.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 How many wins does Burly have? That should end this debate quickly. He has the 16th most wins since the 90s, 3rd most since the 2000s. Likely to be overtaken by Greinke and Kershaw.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 How many wins does Burly have? That should end this debate quickly. 214 wins. More than Doc and 5 less than Pedro Martinez. 55 less than Jamie Moyer.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 Mets have signed Trevor May Details scarce
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 Mets have signed Trevor May Details scarce I don't mind that they are spending their dollars on a player that we were unlikely to sign.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 I don't mind that they are spending their dollars on a player that we were unlikely to sign. There are quite a few relievers out there. We need to get one. Trevor May on a 2 year would have made me happy. I'd be just as happy with Trevor Rosenthal as well who will likely get a similar contract. It will be interesting to see how much he got. I'd be fine with a couple relievers even further down the list.

I think we'll dabble in the market for non-tender candidates like we did with Bass last year and maybe take a flier on a guy like Kirby Yates. Atkins has had success building a cheap bullpen and probably won't change his formula too much.

Agreed Paying top $$ for relievers who have had good runs is not the MO of this front office (thankfully)

I don't want to overpay but if a Rosenthal could be had for 7 mil a year and only a 2 year commitment that might intrigue me, especially if we signed a springer and another starting pitcher. Jake Mcgee's velocity ticked up last year and he could likely be had cheap. Darren O'day, Yates, Greene, Melancon, Bass, Holland. There's quite a few decent relievers that could come at a pretty decent price.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 Our pen has generally been pretty mediocre over the last 3 seasons. Something like 20th in RP WAR. And a lot of that was Ken Giles, who is now dead and gone. We're lucky that Romano got returned to us lol. Otherwise we're looking at Great Value Fernando Rodney a.k.a Rafael Dolis, as our best RP? We did light $25M on fire last year for Roark, Anderson and Yamaguchi, so there are worse ways to spend money than on decent RPs, clearly. Although I'm also not a huge fan of spending big money on them. I'm really interested to see what the AAV is for Trevor May. Looks like 7-8 million right now, so not a big surprise.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 Thank god things are finally happening now. We should guess who the first jays signing over 10 million will be...
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 Thank god things are finally happening now. We should guess who the first jays signing over 10 million will be... There are a lot of rumours around George Springer. I would guess he's the first big signing and it very well could be us
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 There are a lot of rumours around George Springer. I would guess he's the first big signing and it very well could be us f*** that would be exciting And f*** the Astros
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 I am going with Springer also. He's such a great fit. 2nd option would be Kolten Wong @ 2yrs, $15M or so.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 f*** that would be exciting And f*** the Astros No need, they've f***ed themselves.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Springer will go to the Mets, book it! Kolten Wong?? Nahhh
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Springer will go to the Mets, book it! Kolten Wong?? Nahhh Make your Jays prediction, arsewipe.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Realistically, Springer's market is probably the Jays, Mets, and Red Sox if they are willing to spend (no clue if they are). Can't think of any other teams with the combination of need and willingness to spend that much in the current environment. I'm not sure the Jays would be Springer's first choice if the other two teams are legit after him, but money talks. I think Springer's probably the Jays best chance at the top end of the FA market. DJ appears to want to stay in NY and Bauer could sign with practically anyone for any amount of time and it wouldn't surprise me. Although if the Mets can't get Realmuto for whatever reason then signing JTR and trading Jansen for a CF/SP/3B might be a decent pivot, but he seems too perfect for the Mets for them to pass, IMO. Of course the non tender list tomorrow night might add some new possibilities.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Make your Jays prediction, arsewipe. Wong is probably accurate, but not interested at all... I think we have a good chance at Lindor (obviously not FA) and that would mean an extension (like a FA) I wouldn't be surprised if we get JO... snooze Maybe Brantley,.. doubt it though...

Singer went to U in Connecticut and was born there. Connecticut is where rich people who work in New York live it is that close. If I would guess I would say Springer was probably a fan of one of the New York teams growing up.. I just don't see us overcoming all that..
