Surprised I didn't see anyone go for the Jose Canseco classic. If I somehow win, i will be donating my sub to Mr. BTS so he can finally stop posting about how much he hates seeing ads.

Very generous of you.

Fangraphs is a mess. Maybe instead of paying people to write about Miguel Castro's fast changeup they should focus on pushing out actual quality content.

Does anyone even read Fangraphs anymore or just use the player search?

Who would actually give a s*** about Miguel Castro's changeup? He is f***ing terrible and plays for the Orioles

I thought it was a Bugs Bunny changeup.

Fangraphs have become a dumpster fire. You can't even see the stats anymore and new ads load on every page you visit.

I use ublock origin adblocker on firefox and chrome desktop versions and have no issues with ads. I still get an annoying banner that loads at the top of the screen imploring me to subscribe on every page, but it's just a minor nuisance. Chrome on android seems fine too, there are some pretty big ads interspersed in between the stats but I don't find the ads to be intrusive.

Well, I don't want it. May as well go towards kissing the ass of a mod so he thinks twice the next time I commit a ban able offence.

Well, makes sense given that they are barely treading water. They are trying to annoy people into subscribing.

I personally think they should fire all their writers, put their scouting s*** behind a paywall like ESPN does with Law, and run a barebones operation where the main purpose is to supply stat pages.

If you think I'm being defensive, you read that wrong, buddy.

Yeah, I honestly can't believe there are people who don't run ad blockers in this day and age...

I mean, this is what you get on every single page of FG if you have your adblocker active.

Sorry people, but a 60-game world series championship just isnt gonna feel the same as a 162-game world series championship.

Having said that, a season is better than having no season at all

player search only for about the past year now.

Right click and select "Block Element", then highlight that yellow banner and click create or pick (can't remember). I did this and now nothing pops up on the home page or when I search a player.

Seriously? I’m gonna try it.

Edit: IT WORKS... sort of.

Do it once more and click on the large green panel to get rid of it.

I agree. Who cares if Fangraphs or any other sites need "money" to "operate". That is slightly inconvenient for me.

He's aware that kids are at basically zero risk, right?

Run less intrusive ads. If ads were just small, static images I'd have no issue with them. Once they are animated, have sound, or pop up a new window, they can f*** off. Let's not even get into how easy it is for ads to contain malicious software that f***s your computer...

And he cites that. He mentioned the five living grandparents of these children which he wants in their life. Also they were 2.5 months premature...they are at risk to lots of other things. They also refuse to have a live in nanny.

For me, when the ad deliberately blocks the content your viewers came for and forces you to click the X buttons to close them on every page just to see it, something has gone wrong. This happens EVERY page.

People happily pay Baseball America or The Athletic $50 a year for their quality and frequent content (Like me). Fangraphs just needs to rework their entire business model. I’m not saying they should offer their content for free, but maybe provide better value and content people would actually pay for.

Fangraphs 5-10 years ago could have easily went subscription based. They would have to tear down their current business model...not rework it to be successful as a paid model.

Yeah. I pay for BA and have paid for BP and The Athletic, but Fangraph’s current group of writers are so untalented that I’m annoyed at the idea of supporting them financially. That wouldn’t have been true a few years ago when they had a great group of writers. And if they want people to turn off their ad-blockers, they have to get rid of their pop-up adds.

As much as people gave Cameron s***, Meg Rowley has run the site into the ground since taking over for him. Which is a shame, because she was actually a good writer and would have been an asset to them before being promoted beyond her abilities.

Don't make Fangraphs test the theory that their site has enough quality content to run a subscription-based model or that they have the people to make it happen. They can't even reel in low-hanging fruit like BTS. In about six months the site would go belly up and the stat geeks will all be creating Excel macros to translate BR data into their nerd stats of choice.

This is 2020. Any stats guy worth anything already has their own system, and they ain't using Excel.
