Who gives a f***? Why is this even relevant? If a billion dollar organization decided that she is the best candidate to head up their high performance department, what do you have to gain by surmising that the only reason she was given the job is because she is female?

PIST!!! cf

KevinGregg is speaking a whole lot of truth in this thread and the rest of you are wrong.

Women literally cannot play baseball so they invented a whole different sport for them to play. What could she possibly teach an MLB player? She probably can't even throw the ball from third base to first without bouncing it.

Laika says she can hit fungo or throw BP? Lmao I would bet hundred bucks that she can't do that effectively, let alone at the level of an MLB coach.

This is incredibly dumb. I’m not a huge fan of hiring someone for team morale, but to argue she can’t hit a fungo or throw strikes from 45 feet isn’t a great hill to die on

you know women's baseball is a thing right? It's a lot like u14 rep ball (lots of swinging down on the ball and bunting) but it's also less than 10 years old. I watched Canada play the U.S. in the Pan Am games and two girls from the U.S. put balls out. And one girl was hitting 80 consistently.

Not the PanAm game I'm talking about but first game that came up in a youtube search.

LOL that call at 1:55

it never made sense to me that women, who have smaller hands than men, play the game with the way bigger ball. HOW DUMB IS THAT!?

There’s never been a male coach in the mlb who’s only baseball experience is college softball.. wonder why...

1977 Braves, 2018 Tampa Bay Rays (well his experience is intramural softball)...Blue Jays own Carlos Tosca

LOL! You’re the type of guy who watches the WNBA aren’t you?

The pitchers are lobbing 60 mph fastballs down the middle of the plate. One of the “highlights” is a girl barreling a ball about 230 feet to the warning track of a little league field where it’s caught for an out.

The US women’s soccer team lost badly to an under 14 boys team from Dallas. My guess is one of these girl baseball teams would lose 100-0 under similar circumstances.

So yeah I feel pretty confident in saying that women’s baseball is most definitely NOT a thing. Those players and whoever organized the actual game should be jailed. Awful stuff.

lol... Boxy, it's a feat that hasn't been done before, pretty simple, mate?

Oh, is it a "feat" like when Jessica Mendoza became the first female broadcaster on SNB? That worked out real well. Just take a woman with softball experience and hire them, and bask in the fruits of your virtue.

I'm not saying this ginge is going to be the coaching equivalent of Jessica Mendoza, but I am saying that her hire doesn't automatically equate to "awesome" unless she actually turns out to be good at her job. Hopefully that's the case or it's a win for the Cubs.

It's the kind of stuff his target demographic are into (18-22 year old college girls)

I thought you guys were talking about a female getting a job as a coach. Why are you talking about a woman's ability to compete athletically with men? Men are clearly superior physically. Coaching is using your mental ability. Are you suggesting men are mentally superior?

Have you ever seen a woman throw? Lmao there is no chance she can throw BP!

There is a joke in here somewhere about you and half these other guys not being able to throw as hard as her or any other female but I just can't seem to make that layup today.

Easier to see the ball to hit it with their women-eyes.

Sadly I think this demo in particular might be populated by mostly short butch lesbians so anyone interested is barking up the wrong tree.

I spent part of my week working on a Female Development committee and working with CAAWS. Yep. I don't compare women's sports to men's sports, nor do I choose to watch them over Men's. But I thoroughly enjoy women's sports. Don't care if others don't.

I'm happy watching women's tennis and soccer. Not too fond of most others though.

Women's tennis is the worst sport in the world.

The last few pages of this thread is pure cringe. I fully expect there have been many worse hires (males) than the woman Seattle hired.

It's an interesting news story. That's it.

She arguably has better credentials to be an MLB team coach than, say, that Jonathan Erlichman guy the Rays hired.

This is a lame-ass comparison. Jonathan Elrichman was hired to an extremely specialized position (Process and Analytics Coach) and his qualifications - a degree in Mathematics from Princeton University - correlate perfectly and entirely to that position. KevinGregg's point was that her qualifications comparative to what the Giants are saying her role is going to be are muddled. It is entirely probable that she proved herself worthy of the position over her years spent within the organization, and she deserves that distinction, but throwing Jonathan Elrichman as some sort of counter argument is clown-s***, bro.
