Between Rosie's stupid non-baseball questions and everyone else looking for validation about the young core and coming off as pathetically insecure, this has been a trainwreck.

They should just have let the Korean reporters get all the questions, much less cringe that way. This is awful.

At least you got name-dropped by Scott Boras.

Hyun-jin better keep his word next time I visit the Rogers Centre

God, Rosie DiManno is so f***ing cringey.

What's her name from the Athletic asked a couple good questions, other than that, yes, that was painful.

Kaitlyn McGrath, I believe. She asked if the extra year led him to Toronto, he said it was about choosing where to live, I mean that was a decent nugget right? :P

Cast has made it known he is willing to move to 1B and the Jays have an opening. It's a good fit, especially if a couple of club options are tacked on

There is perhaps some hidden upside to his defence. He's only been playing in the OF for two years of his whole professional career.

I guess Castellanos, Gurriel, Grichuk, and Hernandez can rotate between OF/DH, and Cast can cover 1B against LHP when Shaw has to sit. Could work. Probably still not going to be a good defence, but the offensive improvement would be significant.

So one of Ozuna or Castellanos? I think Ozuna fits what Atkins usually targets in hitters but the QO is an obstacle. Cast seems more realistic, especially if his market is not great due to his horrid defence.

It's purely speculative but Danny Horwits from Beverly Hills Sports Council was in Toronto about 2 weeks ago. He has Puig as a client. I'm as anti-Puig as anyone in our dynasty leagues. But his upside makes sense as a guy they would pursue.

Rosenthal said he's heard that Castellanos could be getting close to $100M just by virtue of being young. The AAV won't be that high ($13M-$14M), but he's going to get 6-7 years.

Korean idol groups are notorious for being signed to 10+ year slave contracts. Boras approves and is thus a fan.

She just asked him if he's always been fat, Jesus Christ.

I’m willing to act fake outraged on social media at Rosie’s fat shaming if it helps getting her removed. It would be for a good cause.

I'd be fine with 13 to 14 AAV for Castellanos.

Someone should ask her how many people she had to sleep with to get her job. If she's going to ask somewhat offensive questions of others, it seems only fair to return the favour.

Puig's more of a short term stop gap type to me. Which is fine. I would think he is more realistic than Cast/Ozuna. If the Jays are going to spend big money I don't think they'll do it with anyone remaining in free agency, but we will see.

Pearson, Ryu, Kloff, Manoah & Roark would make a solid 560kg pitching staff.

Interestingly, Ryu's gonna be right next to Vladdy in the locker room:

Someone needs to make sure Ryu doesn't introduce Vladdy to the wonders of AYCE Korean BBQ....

Puig seems like a potential walking PR disaster to me. I'd be fine with it on a short term deal though.

So he's lived in North-America for 6 seasons and still doesnt speak any English??

It’s hard for those guys that come from KBO, NPB, as they are already at an older age by the time they come here. Ichiro for example I believe always had a translator with him up until his retirement. But then guys like Chan Ho Park and Choo who developed entirely through the MiLB system here from young age ended up speaking and communicating in english 100% fine.

Actually, from what I had read in Korean articles, he now understands english 100% fine and can communicate fine with his teammates, but still has a translator around to avoid any misunderstandings. It was the same I believe for Ichiro.

Sounds fair enough.

BTW and I mean no offence or anything, but you guys have one crazy looking alphabet :D

Haha yeah, I’ve been told many times how strange it is to see things like circles, triangle roofs and perpendicular lines used as an alphabet.

Fun fact: if you want to experience how your native alphabet looks like to other foreigners who have no knowledge/past exposure to it whatsoever, flip it to the side/upside down (kinda like how I wouldn’t be able to tell if something in Arabic has been flipped upside down).

Why would you believe that? He might be hot headed on the field and prone to make mental mistakes, but the guy is rather universally loved by Dodgers and Reds fans. He's an easy fan favourite thanks to his infectious energy.

Puig rules. Would love to sign him.

I wonder what kind of money it would take? Puig might only be like a 1 win upgrade compared to the guys already on the roster. Steamer only projects him for 1.9 wins, and he's only provided 1.8 and 1.2 in his last two seasons. Throw in defense that is declining on top of the likely headaches this guy is going to cause, and I just don't see how he is a good addition.

The multiple instances of extremely reckless driving, for starters (although that was a number of years ago). Flipping off fans probably wouldn't go over well either. I'd be okay with a one year deal, but I think an extended one is playing with fire unless there's something in his contract that lets us terminate him for bad behaviour without paying salary.

Well Korean is actually one of the easiest languages to read. The title of this video is a bit hyperbolic but it gets the idea across:

Seeing lots of Boras talk lately after this signing. He's not exactly the guy you want your favorite team's players to hire but otherwise the Jays should embrace him. He cares more about money than anything else so all the talk about free agents not wanting to play in Canada or sign in the AL East for a losing team doesn't matter as much. Just be the good old fashioned highest bidder and you've got a great shot at getting his guys.
