I feel like Lindblom just didn't want to come to Toronto. Milwaukee is also closer to Indiana (his home state)

Lol The Jays say this about everyone, including when guys sign for very little like Gibson or Lindbolm. What was so significant about the Jays offer that he turned it down to sign for peanuts with the Brewers?

“DO SOMETHING MEANINGFUL” screamed the BJMB.

So they did something mediocre. They signed 33 year old Tanner Roark.

“NOT GOOD ENOUGH” they cried.

Fixed

Yes, but they won't. The Roark signing is basically waiving the white flag. They are saying, we have zero intention of competing over the next 2 years. We're not short on arms. Zeuch, Panonne, Murphy, Merryweather, Kay, Borucki, Reid-Foley.

Our rotation is going to be Shoemaker, Anderson, Pearson in mid May, Thornton and now Roark.

I fail to see how we needed to pay Roark 2 years at 12 million a year.

In other words, we're short on arms. There's one good prospect there with upside, an intriguing guy in Murphy, and a bunch of garbage where one guy might be average.

This is ok I guess. He's old and looked horrendous to close out the year. But we had to do something. I'm just worried the wheels come off and he's not even a viable starter for us for any portion of the 2 years.

Kay and Borucki not to be overlooked...

Lindblom got nothing. I'm sure if they wanted him over Roark they would have had him

Exactly. For whatever reason the Jays FO must not like Lindblom. That’s fine

Who nows man, it could be the scare of dual citizenship and going through customs.

So you're saying we traded Josh Donaldson for nothing. Everyone was hot and bothered saying Merryweather was much better than 2nd round comp pick, which I completely disagreed with. I guess the comp pick would have been better.

Merryweather still may be better?

Lindblom is from Lafayette which is like 3.5 hours by car from Milwaukee. Hard to compete with that proximity when the player is a 32 year old coming back from five seasons in Korea; he probably thinks about this as coming "home". I don't doubt that Toronto offered more money and he just didn't think it was worth it. He probably made several million dollars over the last few seasons in Korea so it's not like he's destitute.

I wanted Lindblom more than anybody and I am heartbroken and don't think I'll ever get over him but it is what it is.

Tanner Roark is a fine addition. They needed someone like him. I don't care about it being a slight overpay perhaps on paper.

I liked what I saw from Kay and Borucki in their initial stints with the team, but both guys are at best passable #4 starters and more likely than not are not very good at all.

I'd rather gamble on Alex Wood and Salazaar. Tanner Roark..puke. 55 innings in the American league. Now we get to see 2 full seasons in the American league. He's going to have a FIP north of 5. Gross.

I was thinking #3/#4 for both, so I guess we just have different interpretations about what “garbage” is.

Yes, we traded a month of Donaldson for a lottery ticket with good stuff who unfortunately missed the entire year. It happens, it's been pretty well established that the situation didn't end up the best it could have.

Yeah, but when using logic, saska can’t bitch and moan about it...

Which is fine, but to say you know these guys ceilings are is anyone's guess, we'll see.

Lindblom's deal can actually max out at over $18M with performance bonuses.

Depending on how attainable they are that's a huge difference between the initial 9 mil figure.

Tanner Roark is the not the sexy option but he is a solid 4th or at best 3rd starter. He is a placeholder for a rebuilding team that needs innings. He gives the Jays young guys time to develop and takes pressure off the pen. He is not my first choice but he is okay. I also think the Jays should still be looking for other rotation options.

2016 3.3WAR

2017 2.8WAR

2018 2.2WAR

2019 2.0WAR

ZIP projection for the Jays before Anderson and Roark pickup was about 75 wins for the Jays. The goal of this off-season is to add longterm pieces to the rebuild (which the Jays haven't done yet) and to improve the team to around .500. Around .500 will make it easier for the Jays sign free agents and it is going to need placeholders like Roark.

Even if the Jays spent 360 million on Cole, you still need guys like Roark to fill out the rotation.

Ideally they've front-loaded it a bit, but I don't see an issue with a $12M AAV for Roark. Can pitch a good number of innings, pretty decent K/BB rate, probably wind up ~2 WAR.

Roark will chew up innings at close to a league-average rate for the next two years. Watching him pitch is painful because his stuff is absolute trash. This isn't sexy at all, but he'll probably earn his salary.
Posted
That's ********....we could have paid him 12 mil over 3 years and he would have came to the Jays. Too much risk for their blood.

Jays offer was greater. 29 other teams could have offered him $12M over 3 years and did not. You have become worse than the purposeful trolls.

At per? Neat!

yes Spanky if he gets 600 plate appearances and works as the public address announcer he gets up to $18 per
