BTW congrats on your 220k+ salary. You can definitely afford a nice home in beautiful Ontario!

Good signing. The rotation has improved and that’s a step forward towards building a winning culture for the younger players to transition into. Not really sure what a lot of people expect this offseason when we are nowhere near contention. If the young players take a another step forward the coming season then perhaps some top tier free agents might see this as a viable destination.

I have nothing against Saskatchewan but they need a decent CFL team (because they care about such things) or an NHL team out there or something to talk about. Being insufferable about Toronto's MLB team is a little much.

As far as Roark is concerned, I'll be happy with looking at 150 IP of 4.50 ERA on a stat line at the end of the year, but I am not watching THAT pitch. This will be as painful to watch as Dickey. No thanks.

One year of that would just about purchase my 4 bedroom home that is walking distance from the 2 largest lakes in North America.

You know it’s an exciting free agent signing when the discussion immediately turns to provincial tax brackets.

I love Saskatoon. If I lived in Ontario my marginal tax rate would be 53.53 not 47.5. My house would cost twice as much. My commute would be much longer. I don't begrudge anyone who loves Toronto and wouldn't live anywhere else.

Only an arrogant f***ing loser says an entire province sucks. Saskatchewan is awesome. f*** you.

I live in saskatoon

Came to toronto for a week. The people there, the culture; everything about toronto is so much better. The west is full of a bunch of conservative redneck farmers and it's honestly terrible. And I agree that NOTHING happens here. The most exciting thing to happen here was the Tool concert in 2007

Taxes are a lot more interesting than Tanner Roark

I went to Doc Ellis' to watch game 2 of the world series and there were two hot lesbians feeding each other poutine next to me. Swear to god they would have got lynched in Saskatoon

There was a white girl, an Asian girl and an Arab girl all shooting the s*** and hanging out like total bros in the ROM. You NEVER see that in Saskatoon. It's like 1930 here. Whites with whites. Asians with asians. Theres no diversity at all. How anyone could defend this place is so bizarre to me

Isn't your home also the crackhead capital of Canada now?

It would be hard to name anything less interesting than Tanner Roark.

He's not even a bad pitcher, just freakin boring as hell.

Yeah f*** those conservative redneck farmers. Canadians can survive just fine eating Twitter outrage campaigns and gender pronouns.

Someone mentioned RA Dickey above, and it’s a perfect comp. He’ll shitball his away to a couple WAR and nobody will enjoy watching it.

You must have owned Roark in fantasy because I have no idea how you've watched him so much that you're throwing a Dickey watchability comp on him.

This is really just a head scratcher. We really couldn’t do any better. I don’t even know how he got 2 guaranteed years let alone 12 million per. This is like a spending moneys for the sake of spending kind of move. Hey look we’re doing something. Its not a good something but it’s certainly a something!

I owned him in BORED and have seen him probably 15 times in the last couple years. It sucks watching him because he doesn't really do anything well. Fastball is pedestrian, breaking stuff is ugly and doesn't really generate whiffs, he doesn't get a lot of groundballs, he doesn't generate soft contact. He looks like a deer in the headlights when people aren't biting on his s***** stuff. I can't really think of a starter who's at least league average that I enjoy watching less than Roark. Maybe Wade Miley?

How in the hell did he junk ball his way to a 8.6 K/9? Pretty masterful to be able to do that with horrendous stuff lol. Must have great command?

I watched him a bit with Oakland and I think BTS is being a bit unfair to his stuff but he's absolutely right that sometimes hitters just stop swinging at his secondary pitches and he looks like he doesn't know where he's standing and it's tough to watch. He also gets into a million 3 ball counts. He's a reliable average starter, with his ups and downs, but can be very frustrating to watch. Calling him a junkballer is unfair but he'll have stretches where every hitter is in a full count and no one is swinging at his pitches.

I feel better signing someone like him with our catching situation this year. He may be boring, but we'll get the most possible out of boring.

Saskatchewan is an overall embarrassment to the country of Canada

what a terrible place - genuinely feel bad for anyone who has to step foot in the province, let alone live there

Lol self awareness is essentially zero here. Population of MB is like 1.3M and 1.1M live in the shittiest city in Canada. How dumb could you be? It’s just a massive Regina. It’s so bad their Finnish saviour can’t wait to leave

Also, hilarious the highest tax bracket in MB is 70k. Pick up a few extra shifts at Timmies and you’re one of the wealthiest people in Manitoba.

No one else really wanted Roark so we only had to overpay a little bit. He's a vet innings eater so that we don't have to start the season with 3 young guys in the rotation, and if enough prospects develope so that we don't need him anymore, it's only a 2 year deal. Exactly the kind of signing we were always going to make.

Not true, if no one wanted Roark then we wouldn't have "overpaid a little" for him lol, how does that make any sense? You think Roark would rather sign for like 1/8 than come to the Blue Jays? Sure maybe teams like the Angels and others who desperately need high-end pitching weren't heavily pursuing him but at least two teams with hopes of contending wanted him:
