Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Luciano still looks bad. I saw him throw in DWL and he really stink. Low A level stink? Where should he be assigned
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Luciano still looks bad. I saw him throw in DWL and he really stink. He's still only 19. Most of his age group is in the low minors.
Ray Verified Member Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 66th percentile spin rate on the fastball is close enough to middle of the road and that velocity is not special in this era. At this point I am willing to begin to think that Nick Pivetta is just one of those batting practice style pitchers who can post good K/BB rates but gets hammered on contact. Could be an ultra hittable fastball, lack of a third pitch, or both - or it could be random. That may be true, but I'd still rather have him on our 40-man than say, Sam Gaviglio or Jason Adam, especially if the acquisition cost is low enough.

I think that goes without saying Ray. He seemingly has the tools, but may need a new voice to help him pull it all together.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 A's put Jurickson Profar on the block and may non-tender him at 5.8 million. I'd take him off their hands in a second. The bat was actually pretty good last year considering his .218 BABIP. He's also versatile and at age 26 could still factor into our future.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 The non tender deadline will be interesting. Should be at least a few interesting arb3 players who become available.

It feels like he's been around for 10 years. He'd be good for 2+ WAR with upside. I would do this, too. Maybe trade (don't gasp) Biggio for an impact starter with tons of control. Maybe Jon Gray (less control, I know) and 2+ prospects. Just throwing ideas out.

He'd be a good super utility guy here (ax Drury)
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 Profar would be great in the role Drury had last season. Looks like he played some LF, and graded out pretty well defensively, but everything else was in the infield, and he can play everywhere in the infield. With him being a FA after this season and Boras as his agent I'm sure he will want to go somewhere that will give him everyday AB's. The Jays could give that to him since he plays so many positions, although he wouldn't be able to play everyday at 2B/SS/3B regularly since those positions are covered. It would be amazing if he could somehow play an average CF, but that might be asking too much. A super utility role where he gets 450-500 PA seems doable. As I said, the non tender deadline is going to be interesting. Aguilar was just DFA. Villar is rumored to be NT'd. Maybe Profar and Treinen in Oakland. A bunch of interesting names are going to come out. The Jays having financial flexibility might come in handy here.

Lmao, if the Orioles non-tender Jonathan Villar fire everyone in their FO into the sun.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 Greg Bird would be a good minor league sign with invite to camp. Gives Tellez something to think about.
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 I would totally sign Bird to a MiLB deal. In a heartbeat.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 lol... Orioles DFA'd Villar.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 I didn't see it mentioned here, but apparently we traded Justin Shafer to the Reds for cash. I mean, not really a big deal, but it's technically news.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 That seems like a TON of cash for Drew Pomeranz. Then again, the Padres gave Hosmer a ton of cash, so I'm not surprised. Villar coming off a 4 WAR season being non-tendered is hilarious. Sign me up to add Profar, Treinen and Villar (somehow). Sign Bird to a minor league deal and then I'd even take a flyer on Aguilar - although I think there's a good chance he's done being an impact hitter.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 Jays likely have a pretty good position claiming Villar, right? (I believe it's crappiest record first). I say claim him, pay his salary then entertain trade offers for the rest of the off season, or just play him in 2020. I bet his trade value picks up closer to spring training when injuries and s*** happen, but worst case scenario you've got a guy who just put up 4WAR for $10M, which ain't nothin' to sneeze at.
Ray Verified Member Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 I'd be open to adding Villar and shifting Cavan to 1st. Villar can move around and play the OF too. Seems like a guy the Jays should be adding. We had a hilariously bad team OBP last season.

Detroit gets 1st shot to claim him, then the Royals, then us. I'd say we have a good shot.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 I want both Villar and Profar myself.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 Give Aguilar a chance at a domingo Santana comeback
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 Give Aguilar a chance at a domingo Santana comeback but but but but Rowdy Tellez!
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 but but but but Rowdy Tellez! I think Steamer and Depth Charts predictions both have Tellez ahead of Aguilar in 2020 (like 1.3 WAR to 0.3) On second glance a lot of that is playing time... Tellez still ahead though.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 but but but but Rowdy Tellez! Ya him too. See if s*** can stick.

Detroit would be nuts to pass him up, I'll hope he falls to T.O.
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 Claim him, cover like 90% of his salary and trade him.

Yes Tigers have real need for infield help, but they may not like the salary like the Orioles. The Jays could find a spot for Villar every day, rotating between infield relief, DH, and try him in the outfield. His speed would be a bonus for the Jays, 40 SB last year. But that bat would be a big boost.

Upgrades our offense in a huge way. I had no idea Villar had 40 SB last year. Wow.
