saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 I agree it's not the sexiest package but with the Phils not being that deep I would imagine it would take Stroman to pry what's probably 3 of their top 7-8 prospects. Most of you think Stroman is reaching to try and get a 5 year 70 mil extension. Most of you feel 4 years 55 would be more appropriate. Yet on the trade market a team's 2nd, 3rd and 5th ranked prospect for a year and two months of Stroman isn't enough. There seems to be a disconnect between those two opinions.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 I do like Hasely quite a bit. I think he’ll hit for sure, but not entirely sure about his defense. Fangraphs likes him enough to think he can be a perennial 3 WAR guy. If that’s his floor, I wouldn’t mind him as a secondary piece. If perennial 3 WAR guy is his FLOOR then he has a bit more value than that.
Ray Verified Member Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 If perennial 3 WAR guy is his FLOOR then he has a bit more value than that. You would think, but he hasn’t really been ranked in many Top 100 lists despite being drafted fairly high. And he’s ranked #5 in Fangraphs list in a pretty meh Phillies system. I’m just saying. I think he’s gettable as a 2nd piece. Especially if Philly is desperate enough.

bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 How are we even going to field a team after the deadline hahah
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 How are we even going to field a team after the deadline hahah There's some arms being dropped recently that probably can't be any worse than what we're throwing out there (Stroman aside)
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 How are we even going to field a team after the deadline hahah T.J. Zeuch will be exposed to the rule 5 draft next season. So we might as well add him to the 40 man and give him some starts, once we have traded half a dozen players and moved Sanchez to the bullpen. Urena and Tellez will probably be back after the deadline too.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 If perennial 3 WAR guy is his FLOOR then he has a bit more value than that. Isn't Stroman a perennial 3 WAR guy basically except for the injury years?? So why would anybody trade 1.5 years of a 3 WAR guy for 6 years?? There's some semantics here, but a lot people's idea of floor is too high, and ceiling too low. I think people don't get the amount of variation there is in outcomes. Carlos Danger can explain it I suspect. People are smart, they do whatever gets them cookies. Being very certain (full of ********) gets people corporate cookies. So of course they learn that behavior. Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 How are we even going to field a team after the deadline hahah There probably won't be as many moves as you think/hope. And if there are, we have stiffs in Buffalo we can use/we'll take back a warm body or two in a deal as filler.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 Seems to be a decent amount of interest in Sogard. Interest seems to be driven by the prices of other pieces, but we might end up getting a lottery ticket for him which would be great.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 man do I want things to start happen tho... jesus
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 Still have like 9 days before the deadline, can't see them making any moves too soon without seeing the market play out.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 Obviously dumb sediment to begin with.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 Well there was a rumor that Shapiro "scolded" AA in 2015 for trading so many prospects away for a one year window, so if anything, I would think any bad blood would come from AA, not from the Jays. Not that I think either side would avoid trading with each other. If both teams' needs are met by trading with each other I'm sure it wouldn't be a big deal, but I don't see why the Jays would care at all. Unless Rogers holds a grudge for him turning down their offer or something petty like that. Regardless, yes, let's get some damn trades happening.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 I heard that last year Atlanta was offering Acuna for Donaldson at the deadline. Shatkins didn't want to deal with AA or give him the satisfaction of getting JD, so they took Merry(under the)weather from their buddies in Cleveland because they saw equal value and they could give AA the shaft like he publicly did to Shapiro. True story!

It was widely reported at the time that that was pretty much the first thing Shapiro did, criticising the moves. Then AA is offered an effective demotion to stay, AA obviously must have been pissed off. But yeah as everyone has said, the no trades between them must be ********. If anything you'd want to trade with someone you don't like so that you can demonstrate your superior baseball knowledge (as any GM/President is going to make a trade thinking that they're getting a good deal).
