Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2019 Posted July 3, 2019 If you're a hardcore armchair GM like most of us are this one of the best times of the year. I thought this might be a useful thread as the trade deadline is going to be heavily discussed in both the Around Baseball and General Blue Jays Discussion threads. I figured we could post all trade deadline stuff here including rumors, hug watches, hypos, etc. When an actual Jays trade is made it will likely get its own thread. The General Jays and Around Baseball threads can still be used for all other every day baseball talk like on-field play, injuries, call-ups, etc. If this is a bad idea, everyone can tell me to f*** off and a mod can delete this thread. Here's a fun tool if you want to play around with some potential trades: https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trade-simulator/ Here's to hoping that Atkins really nails the deadline this year!

jmomcc Verified Member Posted July 3, 2019 Posted July 3, 2019 Played around with the trade tool a little. It validated Stroman for Martin and Bukauskas from the Astros. Thoughts? They would prob not trade Martin because he is in their rotation it seems.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2019 Posted July 3, 2019 Contrary to the opinion of some, I do not want to trade everyone. Having said that here is my Jays trade block: Giles Stroman Smoak Galvis Biagini Gaviglio Sogard

I know he was a Top 100 guy coming into the season, but he just hasn't shown an ability to throw strikes on a consistent basis throughout the minors yet. We already have a former Astros prospect we're trying to teach control in Hector Perez. Maybe I'm just the low guy on Bukauskas. Corbin Martin + 1 of Tyler Ivey, Seth Beer, or Jose Urquidy. Throw in a reliever in the package if you have to. Maybe the Astros are enamored enough with Biagini's curve spin rate (87th percentile),.
devo Verified Member Posted July 3, 2019 Posted July 3, 2019 The player values on that website are seriously flawed. Teo Hernandez has a median value of 22 but Ken Giles has a median value of 10.7?

This Trade Simulator has not rejected one yet For me .. 4 for 4 ! Best was the last one If only it was this easy .. Drury would be Gone To Milwaukee and two minor league outfielders Coming back ... Do that Deal and laugh all day ... Lol

Yea, I think it values control too much basically. The guy who created it was on an episode of effectively wild recently and he gave his rationale there. Basically, it’s a work in progress. The values are based on completed trades seemingly.

Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 My question is this... Who nets a better return? Stroman or Giles? Depends on who they are traded to But again top prospects or gtfo. Dont want no scrubs. A scrub is a prospect that can get no love from me
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 My money is on Stroman, quality starters are typically more valuable, but I think it depends on demand. If you have three teams competing for either of these guys it'll be awesome.
Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 Atkins: Hello, we want Clint Frazier Cashman: No thats not gonna happen. But how about Gio Urshella, and Thairo Estrada Atkins: ok :-(, Atkins to Media: It was the best deal available, and I feel very strongly about the players acquired.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 In the spirit of the trade deadline, we should trade a board member to the O's hangout.

keggy Verified Member Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 My question is this... Who nets a better return? Stroman or Giles? Starter in the offseason, reliever at the deadline.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 Starter in the offseason, reliever at the deadline. Yup, it would not shock me if Giles brought back the best prospect
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 Starter in the offseason, reliever at the deadline. Yeah, an elite reliever is more likely to help you in the playoffs. Giles could either close or fill the 7th/8th inning role for most close games. Stroman would only start once or twice a series.
Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 You could argue Giles is the best trade chip that Atkins has ever had. Got to make this count. He just had back to back good games against the defending champions, so now would be the time, instead of waiting until its too late. Edit: Atkins should just set a deadline for the All Star break to trade Giles. The worst possible outcome here is that Giles gets hurt later in June and we get nothing. Since this is an outcome that has already happened to this front office, I hope that they smarten up this time.

Trade partners will factor in the risk of an early deal.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 All I want is for Atkins to sell high. Last year he traded a one legged JD with 4 weeks of control left, Osuna with a DV cloud over him, and Happ when he had a 7.41 ERA in his last 4 starts. That's why I am fine with Stro missing a start and the ASG if he has to. Better than coming back too soon and hurting his performance or himself further. Giles and Stroman are definitely the two biggest trade assets Atkins has ever dealt with. He has to do well here.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 I won't be satisfied with anything less than a haul for the two of them. Each should return a top 100 guy at minimum, plus sweeteners. The farm should look good again at the end of the year even after the promotions of Vlad, Biggio, Bichette, Jansen. I don't really care hitter/pitcher, we need everything so just go get the guys who you think can be the most impactful. Getting antsy for the rumour mill to start churning with speculative names Dodgers, Astros, Yankees, Braves, Twins all have good farms and will be active at the deadline. This should feel like a wet dream for Atkins, just please don't fumble on your way to the end zone.

I'm not expecting Top 20 or 30 guys but I want a top 100 guy for each, plus some Top 10-15 org guys thrown in as well. Position doesn't matter a whole lot but we all know what our needs are. I don't even care so much about age either, they don't have to be close to big league ready. Pay salary, throw in Sogard or Galvis or something if you have too, but the goal should be quality prospects. No more Drury's.
