gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2019 Posted July 13, 2019 Gm's phone to the dugout? You're a f***ing idiot
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2019 Posted July 13, 2019 Surely they are in constant communication throughout the season. Vlad is on some sort of "maintenance" routine where he sits every so often and I'm sure that come from above. One could only assume that Atkins would relay similar information regarding hurt players, especially when they are top trade chips. And if Atkins doesn't relay that info to the idiot manager he hired then he's just as stupid. I'm not expecting him to do it during the game though, of course not. So, no. Managers and GM's talk all the time, I agree, likely on a weekly or monthly approach.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2019 Posted July 13, 2019 You're a f***ing idiot Thank's Coach/CEO/GM/President of player development.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2019 Author Posted July 13, 2019 I have no idea what you're getting at Spanky. He pitched 3 days in a row shortly after coming back from elbow discomfort. Montoyo is a dumbass for doing it but Atkins is a dumbass for allowing Montoyo the option. I don't care how the information was relayed to Montoyo. Atkins could have called him during the game, sent a carrier pigeon a week prior, had the Pony Express deliver a letter to him when Giles came off the DL, or have the Man in White relay signals mid-game for all I care.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2019 Posted July 13, 2019 The Orioles traded Andrew Cashner to the Red Sox for two 17 year olds. Given that Cashner is vomit inducing I like that deal for the orange birds.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2019 Posted July 13, 2019 So...... Donaldson traded on Aug 31 (1 month of control left) when he wasn't even healthy. Happ traded after having the worst month he's had all season, only 2 months of control left. Osuna traded during a suspension. Pearce traded a couple of days after he comes off the DL, he then proceeds to have a 150 wRC+ from the time he was traded to July 30. Pillar traded after starting this season terribly, rather than the year before when he was still a 2 WAR player. Am I missing any? Atkins almost seems to be more comfortable trading from a position of weakness.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2019 Posted July 13, 2019 Also what the f*** are these uniforms?

The supplemental draft pick or Happ back at 17 million would have been say better options

That's a serviceable backend starter.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2019 Author Posted July 13, 2019 lol... it was on Montoyo, restrictions were prior, lol. So you're saying Atkins did in fact relay the restrictions to Montoyo but he just ignored them or didn't understand? Is the Puerto Rican Michael Scott our manager then? haha

Either they're using him as a reliever and hoping his velocity and stuff plays up or they just traded two lottery tickets for a lateral move IMO.

He projects for a >5 ERA/FIP, idk I don't think the Red Sox are the kind of team that needs a guy like this to eat up innings for them. Either they're using him as a reliever and hoping his velocity and stuff plays up or they just traded two lottery tickets for a lateral move IMO. Yeah. Red Sox are 8.5 GB of NYY and 1 GB of the second WC. This could help a tad bit, I think this might shift Eovaldi into the bullpen. Either way, unless a huge trade is coming and their guys start playing better I don’t see another World Series type run this year. $225M payroll for a wildcard spot should be pretty disappointing for Boston fans.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2019 Posted July 13, 2019 Ross Atkins has the worst luck with depreciating assets during mid-season. While teams like the Yanks and Rays always seem to trade at the right time. It's incredibly frustrating. At this rate I'm not even holding any expectations for Stroman and Giles. This was Ross' time to show what he's got, and calling it bad luck when it happens consistently is going to get old in a hurry (if it hasn't already).

Nah, Atkins' TRAIP (trade returns on assets in play) indicates he's been incredibly unlucky in the timing department. He should hopefully regress to the mean sooner than later.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2019 Posted July 13, 2019 It’s OK everyone, they haven’t done an MRI so he must be fine! If he pitches soon then it’s going to be incredibly important that he pitches well. The last thing we need is teams being scared off.

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2019 Posted July 14, 2019 Which pitcher was it that refused to let his team give him an MRI and then he pitched and his arm died?

Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted July 14, 2019 Posted July 14, 2019 Timing is part of a GMs evaluation. Not trading assets at peak value is a GMs fault
Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted July 14, 2019 Posted July 14, 2019 Now that stromans healthy Montoyo should go let him pitch 130 to 140 pitches. Then show up with that dumb look on his face

You basically just cursed Stroman into getting injured now !!! Atkins has proven that his waiting for the right time to trade is never the right time to trade. If this team had the Rays management, at least half of the mistakes like with JD would have been fixed and we'd be way further in the rebuild with a couple of extra pieces. Given the market size and potential of TO, they should have more than just a very average G.M. Edited July 14, 2019 by xposbrad
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2019 Author Posted July 14, 2019 It's fine to trade at the deadline, none of the big chips move until then. That said, it's utterly ridiculous and incompetent to allow him to pitch 3 days in a row when he just came off the DL for a barking elbow. Then they blame it on a massage lol. Even if we do still trade Giles my guess is this will affect the return, at least a little bit. Atkins and Montoyo are both idiots.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2019 Author Posted July 14, 2019 It's time to trade Stroman.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2019 Posted July 14, 2019 It's time to trade Stroman. Yup, with no extension in sight, it's time.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 I think they'll give Stroman one more start, then hold him back from any more. It's all fine and good to say they should trade him now, but it takes another team to dance with. Most will likely be willing to sacrifice one start to find out exactly who is available at the deadline. Potentially holding Stroman out for 2.5 weeks probably isn't feasible.
