Giving up nothing to grab a 2 WAR CF on a cheap deal doesn't really sound stupid to me.

 

They had a need and filled it without giving up a part of their future. It's something I wish our FO would do a little more of to be honest.

Despite his unpopularity Pillar has been an absolute surplus machine since he joined the team. He's on the decline but he is almost certainly worth more to the Giants than what they gave up for him.

he is a low power, swing happy infielder. yet he is out there embarrasing the team in the OF. I guess he fits in with the crew but Alford has to be better than both Hansen.....
