Ray Verified Member Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 Yet to be seen what the terms are
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 He's about as good as Richard but with health problems. Might be a little bit of a FIP beater whereas Richard isn't though.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 Not bad, I like it a lot more than the Richards signing as a 5th starter. Really surprised he was willing to come back to the AL east.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Carlos Danger is gonna be pissed. Buchholz was legit good last year and should make the rotation. I like this a lot.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 The Bud Norris signing and this Clay Buttholez signing are the kinds of low-risk, moderate reward moves that make a Fangraphs fan boi like me giggle
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Carlos Danger is gonna be pissed. Buchholz was legit good last year and should make the rotation. I like this a lot. He's always pitched well at Rogers Centre too (and said in the past he really likes the mound there).
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 I like the Buchholz signing....can we DFA Richard now.
Maico450 Verified Member Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 The pitching staff, and depth, are not looking like quite the disaster it looked like this morning. Might have a .500 team after all.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Depending on the terms of this, I'm cautiously optimistic. He's not bad at all.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 I like this move. If we can sign another guy like Gio Gonzalez then I will be comfortable with the rotation depth.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Depending on the terms of this, I'm cautiously optimistic. He's not bad at all. 6:47pm: MLB Network’s Jon Heyman tweets that the Buchholz deal, if finalized, would pay him “about” $3MM and contain another $3MM worth of incentives. Notably, the agreement is still pending a physical. Yeah, super okay with this deal at a max of $6M
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 I like this move. If we can sign another guy like Gio Gonzalez then I will be comfortable with the rotation depth. I would love a Gio Gonzalez signing to really sure up the rotation but I really don't see it happening. I'm sure he has plenty of teams after him.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 1.9 WAR in 98 innings last year. Good gamble.

I'm sure he has plenty of teams after him. We're playing the kids at every other position. The pitching is our biggest weakness. We need to give the kids a shot and help them develop or at least figure out what we have. As it stands, only Borucki will be in the rotation. Sean Reid foley probably won't get his shot until well into the season.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Nice little signing, hopefully he can stay relatively healthy, I seem to remember him dominating the jays quite a few times.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 AAA rotation: Borucki, SRF, Pannone, Thornton, Paulino, Waguespack, Zeuch, Merryweather when healthy......am I missing anyone?
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Carlos Danger is gonna be pissed. Buchholz was legit good last year and should make the rotation. I like this a lot. Why would I be pissed.. He should bump Richards out of the rotation, not Aceucki.. Plus, Stroman or Sanchez will be hurt soon enough so there will still be a spot for Aceucki. Plus, I like winners. Clay is a WS winning pitcher who excelled in the AL East.. that is ok with me.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Yeah it's not like we have any pitchers with injury concerns. Who needs depth? It would be one thing if we had any chance at competing, but we don't. If we had a chance to compete, I'd be all for Gio. There are plenty of shitballers to eat innings if we have a rash of injuries in the rotation. We can't go through the season without Borucki and Reid foley getting significant playing time. Behind that there's Merryweather Panonne, Zeuch etc.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 I'm really surprised to see Grant77 liking this move. I would have thought Buchholz would be on his death list.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 I member when y'all would hate on Buch Yeah I member...back in the day when he running out a sub 2K-BB ratio.

Also, there's nothing wrong with them playing at AAA.

Nah he’s better than Richard, who has never been good. If Clay is relatively healthy (a big if!) he’s a potential trade asset at the deadline. No one is trading for Richard.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 UGH I don't want to cheer for greasy Clay.
