jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 I remember a lot of people s***ing on the idea of trading Martin +15M for a couple low-ranked prospects a month or two ago. Most of the forum IIRC. I think people may have been holding out we would make a couple moves and maybe have an outside chance at a WC while not mortgaging the future. With how the off season has gone moving Martin for whatever we can get is pretty much a no brainier. Let the kiddos play.
The Iceman Verified Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Kendrys definitely needs to be the next sunk cost causality. Just pay all his salary and get some low minor C prospect. That will allow them to use DH to rest players throughout the year. And yeah I was arguing for trading Martin months ago and remember a lot of opposition to that from this forum. Wonder what changed. Kendry is a family friend of Vlad and a team friendly vet. In a year of transition no rush to show him the door...besides he can play 1st when we get our big package for Smoak.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Thank you for reading my post and proving a serious and negatively coloured response You now have chlamydia It was my pleasure. Was it good for you?

Laika Community Moderator Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Yeah, I'm confused too because I f***ing hate this trade How? Why?
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 How? Why? Because he's dum
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Do the Dodgers expect Martin to play 110 games behind the plate?? They still have Barnes...
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 How? Why? Because Martin still has some use, we're still paying the vast majority of his remaining money and our reward is 2 org guys.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 I have wanted Martin gone since 2016, but seeing all the "French" comments on the Jays page on FB makes me even happier I don't have to hear/see any more Quebecois (Not calling it French because I don't want to insult the French).
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 (edited) Because Martin still has some use, we're still paying the vast majority of his remaining money and our reward is 2 org guys. How is Sopko even close to an org guy? Great peripherals in 2015, 2016, and 2018. I understand hating Brito but org guy also seems excessively negative for him Edited January 12, 2019 by Laika

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Is it this one? That's the one! Love the French call of that Martin HR. You are in Calgary too? This is my kid with Danny Jansen last weekend at small Camp he did.

I understand hating Brito but org guy also seems excessively negative for him Sopko is a 24 year old in AA with middling results. If that's not an org guy, not sure what to tell you.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 What ever will we do without his elite framing skills? Use, to sit on the bench, and take up a roster spot? Uh oh, I've gone against the popular opinion! I must return to the herd!
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Sopko is a 24 year old in AA with middling results. If that's not an org guy, not sure what to tell you. Clearly you don’t understand what the term org guy even means. Unless you’re just trying to be contrarian here
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 For 3.6 million I think we would have been better off just keeping Russ. That being said, we did right by him and I don't think the move is terribly harmful. We might get a useful reliever out of it.

Most of the forum IIRC. It definitely wasn’t most of the forum, but a few people were advocating keeping him in a mentor role for Jansen, and presumably moving Maile instead.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Unless Martin quietly wanted out, I’d rather have kept him instead of saving 3.6M and a couple of dusty prospects
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Unless Martin quietly wanted out, I’d rather have kept him instead of saving 3.6M and a couple of dusty prospects Most likely, he wants a ring.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Because Martin still has some use, we're still paying the vast majority of his remaining money and our reward is 2 org guys. I feel like you’d be the first person complaining that Danny Jansen isn’t getting enough PT if Martin was still a Jay by mid-season. I don’t agree with your premise that having Martin around for vetrin presents in a write-off season is more valuable than two s***** prospects and a handful of change. Either way it really doesn’t seem consequential.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 The reaction by the casuals is much worse than anticipated
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 A small sample from the Jays FB group This is the worst trade ever!! What is this front office doing? Other than gutting the team. They came in to dissolve the BJs Traded him away for a guy to fill the position of another guy WE PAID to walk away and join the Yanks. 20 more years until meaningful baseball in late September. !!! Lets Go Bisons !!! I am crying. We have no Canadians in the team now is it going to be worth watching only for Pillar
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 It definitely wasn’t most of the forum, but a few people were advocating keeping him in a mentor role for Jansen, and presumably moving Maile instead. No, it was most of the forum. Or at least most of the people in the conversation at the time. Jim advocated trading him in a deal like this, Boxy jumped on him, and then a bunch of people piled on. Edit: Actually is was saskjsysfan2 who suggested this exact trade and got dragged for like 3 pages by the hive.
