Doesn't sound like any of those guys are even somewhat close to returning.

TBF Richard and Merryweather both sound like they are close to rehabilitation starts in the minors, with Phelps not far behind.

About 5 PM I wanted to post in here that I was worried about this Twins series

I'd be pretty worried about all of the series tbh. This team sucks.

Chris Stratton just got DFA'd by the Angels. I know he's been really bad, but his spin rates are elite:

91st percentile fastball spin

99th percentile curveball spin

He's worth putting a claim in on.

I see Vlad is hitting ahead of Billy McKinney today

That will definately get him some pitches in the zone

It’s objectively a good thing if Vlad sees a lot of pitches outside the zone.

Coming up on SN 590 I believe Bob said Ken Rosenthal coming up to discuss, Stroman, Sanchez, Smoak trade rumors...

The only rumour is "they're available to be traded for", that's not a rumour that needs a discussion.

There was discussion in last night's GDT about the source of this and validity. As I mentioned, if it comes from Rosenthal, pretty valid and well sourced you can assume. If it came from Keith Law... Might as well have come from me...

I hope it is a valid rumor.

My point is how are you going to fill airtime beyond "I hear that all three are available for trade."

And I hope it's not remotely valid (with the caveat that anyone is available for the right return...)

Was Rosenthal on yet?

Nope, coming up...

Cool, I'm watching it, didn't want to listen to these guys talking about other stuff, when I missed it. Ahh... here it is, now.

He just back tracked to this very point, good call. Nothing to see here.

If the high fastball, low breaking stuff pattern gets him out, they'll use that just as much with Smoak behind him.

Until he starts taking a lot of walks they'll keep using the same strategy. It seems he's gets a couple balls, then low breaking stuff at the bottom of the zone, and there's where he hits his chopper... maybe he needs to wait deeper in the count until he gets something he can put in the air.

Alen Hanson cleared waivers and was sent to AAA in case anyone was worried that we'd lose our future superstar. Edited by Deadpool

After Thornton -with his nice spin rates- got lit up again I'm really wondering how much stock to put into those spin rates. There's no doubt they're a positive attribute, but spin rates are not very useful in evaluating two-seamers, cutters, sliders and changeups. Especially the changeup is a pitch I'm a big fan of. Also, Halladay didn't have a lot of break on his curve, but he had amazing command over it, which I think is the most important for any offspeed pitch.

Not saying Stratton isn't worth a shot, just thinking my own thoughts about spin rates out loud here.

Thornton is has a 25% K rate as a starter with a 4 seam fastball in the low 90s. His spin rate is probably the reason that he's holding his own without getting completely destroyed.

With that said on a team with a deep rotation, I think Thornton turns into a lights-out reliever.

Poor Thomas Pannone.. Victim of numbers game I guess.. I am hoping the demotion is just to stretch him out as a starter...

Hoping Maybe Biggio or an OF will come up :)

That doesn't seem to be true for Grichuk. You could throw 3 in the dugout and strike him out.

You've made your mind up about the validity of spin rates based on 8 starts by Trent Thornton? Are you f***ing kidding me? This is what's wrong with the world today.

No what is wrong with the world today is people online cherry picking one point out of a series of points and condemning the person rather than pointing out why that particular point is wrong.

Yeah, he cherry picked one point - the main point and the reason the entire post was made.

Lol jesus, what a dumbass

Gurriel to be recalled? Maybe even Biggio (though I doubt it). Could just be another reliever of course.

Maybe we're trading for a toolsy AAA outfielder named Plato Chimichanga
