Honestly Pompey is like the guy at work who complains that the air is too dry and that he gets headaches because the lights have too much glare. Nobody respects that guy.

Now pitching for the Toronto Blue Jays.. Hot Trash... Never been a fan of Barnes.. I think Sammy is serviceable as a long guy, but needs to talk to Estrada about how to keep HRs under control

True story?

A silver lining is this should all but guarantee that Paulino starts the year with the team. Gaviglio and Borucki should now both be locks as well.

s***, I can do without Axford, Tepera is a sting, but Norris is going to hurt...

I never quite understood the Axford addition besides "veteran presents", guys ticketed for AA/AAA on the 40man like Paulino, SRF, PMurphy are probably all better then him now, but have higher hopes then that for them instead of generic 6th inning reliever(well srf and p murph)

Was there really any question with Aceucki...? ;) Plus he was told he is a guaranteed starter a few days ago.

It's a long season and 40-60 innings from Axford doesn't really preclude young guys from eventually playing. We are already getting stung and at this point I wouldn't be surprised if total non-prospect types get added to the 40 man to throw innings at some point during the year.

BA piece today:

While Nate Pearson was showing a mid- to upper-90s fastball and two above-average or better secondary offerings on one of the Phillies' back fields on Wednesday, another Blue Jays righthander was showing similar stuff a couple of fields over.

Patrick Murphy, the Blue Jays' No. 17 prospect coming into the season, put together an eye-opening appearance against a group of Double-A and Triple-A Phillies minor leaguers. He sat 95-96 mph for 4.2 innings and touched 97-98 mph throughout his start. The curveball that has long been a key part of Murphy’s repertoire was there as well.

Murphy has been seen in the past as a likely reliever because of his lack of a decent changeup. Over the second half of the season last year, Murphy began to find some feel and confidence in a changeup after settling on a new grip. That improvement has carried over to this spring. The last two of his eight strikeouts (among only 14 outs) came on his changeup, meaning he finished off strikeouts with all three of his pitches.

With Murphy’s blazing fastball and a curveball that he can both backdoor to hitters and use to attack hitters in the zone, Murphy only needs a solid-average changeup to keep hitters off balance. On Wednesday, his changeup was even better than that at times, as he showed plenty of deception and generated swings and misses.

“My changeup has gotten a lot better,” Murphy said. “Today was a good day (having) all three pitches.”

Murphy said it wasn’t that long ago that he would have never considered throwing a two-strike changeup to finish off a hitter, but a lot of work has gotten him from the point where he threw the change because he now believes in the pitch. It’s not normally a swing-and-miss pitch, but if it’s good enough to surprise hitters sitting fastball, it can be an effective pitch.

Murphy’s other key focus is simply staying healthy. He had Tommy John surgery in the past, thoracic outlet surgery (although it was later discovered he didn’t have TOS) and ulnar transposition surgery.

The 22-year-old righthander did throw 146.2 innings last season and was added to the Blue Jays' 40-man roster in the offseason to protect him from the Rule 5 draft. He’ll likely head to Double-A New Hampshire this season, where he’ll have a chance to show he’s not far away from being able to help the Blue Jays in the rotation.

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Dalton Pompey is being evaluated after hitting his head against bats in his locker, Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi reports.

The 26-year-old from Mississauga, Ont., was scratched from the club’s lineup prior to their spring training tilt against the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday.

This is NOT accurate.. He was in the game I could swear he caught a ball then they pulled him.. He was NOT scratched prior to the start.. So somehow between coming off the field and getting ready to lead off the inning hitting, he hit his head...

Patrick Murphy > Nate Pearson now, maybe at some point this season Pearson can catch up.

Pearson has higher upside, Murphy is closer to contributing to the big league club. A small minority would rank Murphy higher.

Looks like Jordan Romano is headed back to the blue jays, but the rangers would like to

trade for him. So the rangers can have him for Demarcus Evans.

Tercet would rank Murphy higher. That's about it.

Lets think rationally..

PM pitched in the FSL last year and was meh, he throws hard.

NP has pitched 1.2 innings above rookie ball, was quite bad recently in the AFL, and he throws hard. His hype/prospect ranking is 100% solely based on the fact that he throws hard and that is it. He hasn't pitched enough to give anyone a true indication of what type of pitcher he is.

Oh look someone earlier this week who walked alot of people in the AFL w missed his fastball location really badly and a semi decent hitter make him pay for it.

Now for the NP defenders, what is your defense that Nate Pearson is clearly better then Patrick Murphy?

The only defense that I can think of is that his ceiling is much higher then Patrick Murphy because he hasn't been exposed enough yet.

Pearson:

FB - 75

Slider - 55

Changeup - 50

Murphy:

Fastball - 60

Curveball -- 55

Changeup - 45

Until you acknowledge that Pearson's secondary stuff is very good too there's nothing more to talk about.

I like Murphy more than most, but he isn't a better prospect than Pearson... At least not today. Could it happen in the future? Of course. Prospects move up and down all the time... But that isn't the case now.

Jesus Christ

And a double Jesus Christ for that TOS note. Had the surgery and found out after he didn't actually have TOS!? lol

Yeah Murphy is not a better prospect than Pearson hahahaha.
