And eats the Landis trophy.

You will all be surprised when Vlad and Rowdy Tellez are named co-winners of and have to share the Landis trophy. However, the best part will be watching them battle royal to see who gets to eat it.

Love this even if it's just ST. Nice to see the new skip experimenting, very Tampa Bay like.

New Blue Jay Bud Norris regrets past honesty about non-American ball players

Bud Norris is keen for a fresh start in Toronto and to continue putting a controversial incident from 2015 behind him.

And yes, the right-handed reliever regrets that his comments, critical of players of different ethnic backgrounds playing in Major League Baseball, were overheard.

“I didn’t use my words very carefully that day,” Norris said on Thursday in his first public comments as a Blue Jay. “I didn’t articulate myself the way I wanted to, given that people were listening and reporting. I didn’t communicate what I should have been trying to say in that context - the politically correct things.

“A writer, basically over my shoulder, asked a question and I just kind of popped off. I’m very apologetic for that. I'm apologetic that people got a glimpse inside my ugly head.”

Coming to a clubhouse with a heavy Latin component, including first-year manager Charlie Montoyo, it’s obviously a wise priority for the 34-year-old Norris.

Norris’s 2015 comments were in response to a USA Today report that claimed the majority of bench-clearing brawls in MLB included players of different ethnic backgrounds.

“I think it’s a culture shock,” Norris said told USA Today. “This is America’s game. This is America’s pastime, and over the last 10-15 years we’ve seen a very big world influence in this game, which we as a union and as players appreciate.

“However, if you’re going to come into our country and make our American dollars, you need to respect a game that has been here for over a hundred years, and I think sometimes that can be misconstrued.”

Norris said he appreciated comments from Montoyo on Wednesday where the manager said he will form his own opinion on the new bigot once he gets to know him.

“I would love to have that opportunity to sit down and have him get to know me,” Norris said. “That meant a lot that he said that because I hope over time he can make his own opinion of me. Just because he is Latin does not mean he likes Latin people, so maybe we'll find some common ground.”

Dallas Keuchel apparently only has 2 year deals on the table.

I still think we should swoop in and try to sign him. He could probably be had for less than what Arrieta got at this point. The rotation would look a lot better.

If Keuchel takes a short deal, it certainly wouldn't be with Toronto, Ray.

Not advocating for a short term deal. I'd be fine with 4 years 60M-70M. We have plenty of payroll going forward, and even right now.

I think he's suggesting give him a 4 year deal if the AAV has come down significantly. We have nothing committed next year.

Oh, I see, that makes more sense, sure.

Ok, I never really had an issue with shifts and all that, and maybe I'm getting into "get off my lawn" territory, but I kinda miss the game when everyone played their position and relievers were not spammed as much as they are, etc.

Good that the Jays are doing it, Gibby was probably too old school to implement all of this stuff and we need to stay ahead of the curve, but there's still some old school in me, I guess.

I agree. There’s a reason why basketball doesn’t let you park some giant in front of the rim, it’s not within the spirit of the game. I embrace a lot of the forward thinking in baseball, but at some point the game has a purity to it that I don’t want to see disrupted. Having four players acting as infielders should be a rule, not a suggestion.

LGJ and Teo putting up video game numbers so far, Drury doing well early on too, Pillar hit a slam. Pitching staff pitched very well, well, Richard was meh, not bad for first start. Boxscore...

Almost 5 runs per game...

Gurriel and Teoscar's numbers don't count though, because of reasons.

I think the bigger issue is the lack of balls in play. Watching people work deep counts and strike out a lot simply isn't enjoyable to watch. I'm not sure what the answer is, but more balls in play would be best for game IMO. If balls are in play more - I personally don't care where the fielders stand (although I'm not completely against rules that prohibit placement of defenders).

Sean Reid Foley threw 10 straight balls in a inter squad game and Gurriel and Teoscar swung at them all. Three careers ended in the span of a few minutes.

"Back in 2014 I asked my dad for advice in dropping the weight and he spoke with my grandmother and she helped me," he said. "She would prepare all my meals; she would cook the meats and sweetbreads I like in a very healthy low-fat manner. I also started eating a lot more vegetables and drinking green juices and it helped me lose those 20 pounds."

Altagracia Alvino, Guerrero's paternal grandmother, has always been a source of inspiration for the family. She lived in Venezuela and Colombia and worked as a housekeeper to support her children for over a decade, including Vladdy's famous father, Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero Sr.

Her cooking was actually famous throughout the major leagues at one point, when she would cook enough rice and beans and other Dominican delicacies not only for Guerrero's teammates on the Montreal Expos and Los Angeles Angels, but also for opposing teams' players.

"My grandma arrived on Wednesday; she'll stay with me for the duration. I of course enjoy her cooking and she helps me but I was here alone and I needed someone from my family, and she always spends time with me during the spring, so I am happy to have someone from my family here," Guerrero explained.

Geezus, his grandma is seemingly his de facto nutritionist and she's feeding him sweetbread and juice. No wonder he's a fatass. He needs a real dietician/nutritionist.

TIL Sweetbreads are not sweet. They're not bread. They're offal. More specifically, sweetbreads are the organ meat from the thymus gland and pancreas. They are most commonly from veal or lamb, but beef and pork sweetbreads can also be found

Lol ok well that's probably better then. Sweetbread as I'm familiar with it is usually the term to describe Hawaiian King style rolls which are horrible for you. Didn't realize sweetbread was also the name for types of offal.

Vlad can eat whatever he wants but lower the amount of calories. That combined with training will get the weight off. He's never going to be a health nut, so don't try to make him one, just educate him to be smarter about the amount of calories he needs depending on what his goals are.
