SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 Girardi has been my pick for a while. Schneider makes sense, manager of the year, in the system, knows a lot of the players. Do either one of them speak Spanish? That needs to be a required skill I think.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 Also, stop with Girardi, he's a moron. Plus the rumour claims they want a young Manager. Meaning, pay him f*** all as a yes man to a point.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 Losing Gibby sucks. I hope he gets another job.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 Losing Gibby sucks. I hope he gets another job. Sounded like he was ready to retire and go home. I doubt he takes a position unless it's a team near contention and he's the Manager, he loves his ranch, lol. I don't blame him.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 Gibby is one of those guys you really root for. He's also super fun and a gif machine. We all know managers have little impact so I don't think most people are upset by this from a team performance viewpoint. We just really liked Gibby. Yeah I wouldn’t mind if Gibby stayed since Gibby 2.0 is more than capable to manage in any situation (Gibby 1.0 was trash), but sounds like he may want out just as much as the front office wants a change. I don’t think he’ll get another job unless AA makes a managerial change in ATL, though. Teams are going younger and cheaper with managers now.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2018 Posted September 7, 2018 Stubby is gonna be that good ole Canadian name that's gets thrown around, just cuz ... Canada and stuff. John Schneider is interesting, he was a Jays draft pick and farmhand until he took one too many foul tips off his mask and had to quit due to concussions (3 in 1 year... sux). He's managed the Jays GCL team, Vancouver team, Lansing, Dunedin and New Hampshire since 2013.

Using that logical progression, does he manage in Buffalo next season, or does he skip over AAA and manage the MLB team due to the immediate managerial vacancy?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2018 Posted September 7, 2018 Using that logical progression, does he manage in Buffalo next season, or does he skip over AAA and manage the MLB team due to the immediate managerial vacancy? Not sure. I mean, it's clear he's being groomed for a future managerial job with the club at some point. Whether or not that point is now is something we really have no idea about. Minor league Managers never really get any ink and they're aren't really any scouting reports for them, so really all we have to go on is the fact that he's been in the system as a manager now for 6 seasons, has won pretty much every step of the way, has been promoted accordingly, and is clearly the kind of manager they want around their young players. If he wasn't he wouldn't still be here. Meacham is 60 years old at Buffalo so maybe they do send him out to pasture and have Schneider take over there.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2018 Posted September 7, 2018 Using that logical progression, does he manage in Buffalo next season, or does he skip over AAA and manage the MLB team due to the immediate managerial vacancy? I'd be afraid of starting his service time clock too soon, the fanbase might not like it but we might have to wait until May 2020 to get that extra year of control in with the team unlikely to be competitive next season.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 7, 2018 Author Posted September 7, 2018 Whoever was on MLB radio at 5:30 today (someone who managed against him and with him in the minors) was raving about how smart Gibby actually is. Saying that how his demeanor works in the bigs because those that know him actually respect his smarts...but still most that don't know him think he's got to be an idiot.

A lot of teams will put their best managerial 'prospect' at AA since it is perhaps the most important level for prospect development.

People think he's old school because of the way he talks. But he never bunted and he put our best hitters at leadoff before it was a cool thing to do. ^This. I love Gibby. There's little doubt in my mind that whoever they bring in will be a downgrade. Also - f*** all the casuals who don't appreciate what they have.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted September 7, 2018 Posted September 7, 2018 I wonder if they do a year of Eric Wedge or Demarlo Hale with Schneider as the bench coach.
ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted September 7, 2018 Posted September 7, 2018 Wally Backman plz and thx
bowld Verified Member Posted September 7, 2018 Posted September 7, 2018 They want someone young to grow with the team during the 2-3 year rebuild. My vote is for Alomar or DeRosa
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2018 Posted September 7, 2018 No Farrell or Girardi. I see Wedge gets a lot of hate, is there a particular reason? Can't say I watched a lot of M's or Indians games when he was managing.

Can't say I watched a lot of M's or Indians games when he was managing. He made an anti Sabr comment years ago that was blown out of proportion if i recall correctly. It’s the new generation. It’s all this sabermetrics stuff, for lack of a better term, you know what I mean?” Wedge said. “People who haven’t played since they were 9 years old think they have it figured out. It gets in these kids’ heads.” ^ that. Edited September 7, 2018 by jays4life19

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2018 Posted September 7, 2018 Am I the only one who heard this rumour plus the Shapiro rumour and is getting very, very nervous over the potential direction things could take here? Edward Rogers needs to go play in traffic, put a bag over his head or whatever cliche is needed to get a very stupid adult who was rich from birth out of the picture. The Jays have a perfectly good coaching staff and FO right now. I don't want that f***ed with.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2018 Posted September 7, 2018 Craig Breslow.... interesting choice for their list.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2018 Posted September 7, 2018 I'm good with Victor Martinez or John Schneider.

P2F Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2018 Posted September 8, 2018 who's going to replace shatkins when they bolt for the Mets? TORONTO – Mark Shapiro declined to directly comment on recent reports linking him to the New York Mets, but the Toronto Blue Jays president and CEO insisted that he’s committed to his current post and isn’t at odds with executives at club owner Rogers Communications Inc.“I feel as, if not more, excited to be here than the day I chose to come here about three years ago, for all the same reasons, namely at the top of the list, the city and the country and what that’s meant to me personally and my family being here. It’s been an exceptional place to be,” Shapiro said during a 40-minute discussion with writers covering the team Friday, his first extended public comments with local media in months. “And then for the potential of the franchise. If anything, living it the past 2½ years, I feel even more bullish on what an incredible opportunity there is here to build something over multiple years that captures an entire nation and achieves levels that you dream about when you think of these types of jobs. “This is where I want to be, this is where I am, this is what I’m focused on, and really don’t need to think of anything else.” So you’re sticking around, he was asked. “This is where I want to be.” Shapiro's not going anywhere. Cherington could be a different story.

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2018 Posted September 8, 2018 While I agree Gibbons has for the most part been a good in game manager. I dont believe he gets the team prepared adequetly coming out of ST. Doesn't put enough empahsis on the fundementals, and is not willing to make the team take extra fielding drills etc. I have also been very frustrated with his battings orders in the past. So, IMO he is an awful manager for young kids and a rebuild. With the direction we are going. Glad be will be going.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2018 Posted September 8, 2018 Shapiro's not going anywhere. Cherington could be a different story. Good. I mean, I'd prefer Cherington sticking around as well, but keeping Shapiro (for the next two years and beyond) is the key. Having a baseball guy as the team president is so refreshing, as opposed to Paul "we plan to install grass in 2018 even though my contract ends in 2015" Beeston.

I'm hoping Shapiro is here long enough for the team to become a contender, so Ross Atkins builds enough clout to take over as president should Shapiro decide to leave.
