TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 I hate putting a Heyman rumour as factual but it's looking more like it's true. Lets try and keep it to one thread. If Gibby's announced as returning I'll lock and delete.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 6, 2018 Author Posted September 6, 2018 And I'll once again throw John Schneider out as the replacement. Winning background, still young, relationship with about 50% of the team.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 6, 2018 Author Posted September 6, 2018 This makes me sad. Can they keep him around for press conferences at least.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 Very disappointing. I think this is a bad decision. Gibby has always had success with playoff calibre teams and I think he was the right guy to develop teenage Vlad and our other youngsters.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 Mark Derosa would be interesting although doesn't have any managing experience.
BillSupra Verified Member Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 My pick is the feisty Canadian Stubby Clapp. Winner in the minors and managing the young guns in Arizona this year. The Canadian aspect would jive well with the fans too.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 Weird how Atkins went on at length about how Gibby is part of the future nary a month ago. f*** this decision. Better question, how does an objectively terrible manager like Showalter get so much more rope? I really hope this was Gibby's decision.

Every time someone posts a quote from Gibby it sounds like he's not really interested in coming back. I really hope that's what's going on, and that he's not being forced out.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 I suspect Gibby will be Atlanta bound.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 Tito? We all wish So does Shapiro But he won't leave Cleveland
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 I suspect Gibby will be Atlanta bound. AA will want him at least as bench manager
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 I hate putting a Heyman rumour as factual but it's looking more like it's true. Lets try and keep it to one thread. If Gibby's announced as returning I'll lock and delete. I certainly hope there was a difference in philosophy, and Gibby wasn't willing to implement some of the things the front office wanted. It seemed a few weeks ago they were experimenting with "bullpen days" and the opener concept just a bit... then that went away. With several young pitchers, and several struggling pitchers, it would seem the perfect time to experiment with some of that... but it hasn't happened. So my speculation is that maybe that Gibby wasn't into that new fangled s***, and so they are parting on good terms. If Gibby was willing to do whatever the front office wanted, and they still are letting him go... then it's total s***.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 I vote Girardi too Unjustly let go One year off Time to get back at it for him and it might be the best opening available this off season
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 I don't think Gibbons wants to be here through a rebuild. I think it's more of a mutual/Gibby decision situation, which would be the only situation I would accept without anger towards the FO.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 (edited) This sucks. We'll miss you more than you know, Gibby. Edited September 6, 2018 by P2F

glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 Respect to Gibby for being able to change after Shatkins took over, but I don't see the big deal. Most managers are now analytical extensions of the front office. Gibbons will be missed based on his relationship with the players, but as far as actual decision making, managers are basically puppets now. As long as they don't hire a Dusty Baker/Buck Showalter type, we won't even notice the difference aside from no longer having entertaining inteviews before/after games.
leaffie Verified Member Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 Sandy alomar jr. Came close before they hired farrel. Catcher, who I think make good managers. Shapiro is well acquainted with him.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 If not manager, bring Johnny Mac back to be defensive coach to these young guys.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 If not manager, bring Johnny Mac back to be defensive coach to these young guys. Hitting coach, pitching coach, why not a defensive coach
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 And I'll once again throw John Schneider out as the replacement. Winning background, still young, relationship with about 50% of the team. Clapp or Schneider, the latter seems far more reasonable. Also, if true, I hope this is all Gibbons.

Gibby is one of those guys you really root for. He's also super fun and a gif machine. We all know managers have little impact so I don't think most people are upset by this from a team performance viewpoint. We just really liked Gibby.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 I got that to that he did not want to be a part of the rebuild. He literally said that.
