I was pretty worried Osuna was going to be flipped for pennies on the dollar when the tweets dropped earlier today saying that teams weren't interested. Very happy to see that wasn't the case.

I had my doubts, but this is a really good return. Much more than I was expecting.

Does Giles get flipped now or not?

90% of ball players cheated on their women.

ftfy. while I"m more on the SJW side than most here, cheating on spouses or taking PEDs are not in my DBag radar. My response to BTS was a joke

Shatkins did really well here. Osuna without the legal s*** may have gotten more but this was very good regardless. Giles could be better than Osuna next year + prospects.

You have 2 years and 2 months of Giles. No need to flip him immediately unless you feel there is reason in his performance

My guess is no. Bring him up to MLB and let him close out the year. Hopefully he can reestablish his value and we can trade him next deadline.

That's the question. Does Giles get flipped now? I'm not sure I'd flip him now. Let him rebuild his value next year and then trade him

Sheryl Ring about to go ballistic at Houston.

Good return all things considered.

And Toronto. Her initial article said that gaining assets from trading a women beater was as bad if not worse.

I don't think he needs to get flipped. He still has 2 more seasons of control after 2018. He could be the lucky guy who gets to be the "closer" during the re-tooling period.

That said, if he is flipped for more prospects, that's fine too.

I think Giles will step in to the closer spot immediately. He'll be quite a valuable trade chip in a year if he performs to expectations.

Gilies can come up and be the closer for 2 months and than flip him in the off-season if all goes well. Hes got shelled since being demoted to Triple-A though but his issues appear to be more mental than anything.

Yup. Trade him next July when he’s killing it next year. Will still have 1.5 years of control by then so not a rental.

Lets have Gibby beat some sense into Giles like Shea H and Lilly lol..... I like the return had the same worry that we were going to get pennies on the dollar for him

Luhnow and Osuna statements

Interesting that Osuna did not mention the Jays. Osuna's statement makes me think this deal has been done for a while.

Did not like the Happ trade, the Oh trade was fine but this deal I really really like.

Yeah, same for me

Just wondering when Giles gets flipped for a team's failed #10+ prospect next year if we will still all say it's a great trade?

My thoughts exactly.

Now hopefully we can acquire some more intriguing lottery tickets for our veteran free agents to be. I was actually kind of hoping to trade Tepera to the Astros for a nice return before he got bombed by the White Sox

Whether you like it or not, off-the-field issues (heck on the field ones too... cough Escobar, Pillar cough) can distract and hurt the bottom line of a team. The media was never going to let this go until he was gone (heck just take a look at the s*** being flung at the Astros right now). They needed to get out from this if the goal was to create momentum for 2019 with a youth movement (and two other teams in TO potentially eating into their attendance / disposable income pockets).

The fact they got arguable fair value for a player who hasn't played in 3 months leads me to believe that management knew his value and did very well. I'm happy.

Seems like a decent return.

I knew the Jays and Rogers would be too cowardly to ever let Osuna play for them again.

Looks like they learned from the Escobar fiasco, not to make it blitheringly obvious that they need to get rid of him.

Still a lot of pieces I'd like to see go: Granderson, Tepera, Solarte, Clippard Loup and Axford if anyone wants them. Hopefully there's still a few trades left.

I agree. Only reason I asked was I had seen it mentioned earlier in this thread.

It seems he had fallen out of sorts with Hinch (most likely because of his s***** attitude) losing the 9th amd then ultimately being demoted despite not pitching poorly at all.

BP from December:

Hector Perez, RHP, High-A Buies Creek

This Perez has nasty stuff as well. Seriously nasty. It’s a plus fastball/slider combination, and plus might be light on the ultimate slider projection. However, “strikethrower” is not an epithet we will be using in this blurb. Perez walked more batters than he struck out the last month of the season, and that isn’t wildly out of character with his season in general. There’s a lot of effort here, a not always repeatable release point, and another bullpen future. This Perez may have a bit more of a winding road to the majors, but you could certainly argue there is closer stuff in here. He also may be one of those guys that walks 7 per 9 in Triple-A for a while but keeps getting chances because the stuff is…well, nasty.

So we traded for Jeremy Jeffress...

Ehhhh... Not loving the deal, but considering the circumstances with Rogers, I guess it's as good as one could've hoped for. I'm really not all that excited about Paulino or Perez. Giles is good, but I'd hope for a bigger return for a guy as lights out as Osuna.

Osuna is going to face a shitload of immediate scrutiny but after that he comes out smelling like roses. A new start with the best team in baseball backing him.

Number 7 on the Astros mid season update from BA

7. Hector Perez, RHP

Double-A Corpus Christi

Age: 22

Perez was spraying the ball all around (but rarely in) the strike zone early in the season, but after some work to simplify and clean up his delivery, he’s throwing many more strikes and seeing the results that come with improved control. With a mid-90s fastball, an improving splitter and a hard 88-91 mph slider, Perez has the stuff to dominate if he can get ahead in counts.

I hate to see him go but yeah he has it made there, wonder how he handles the pressure though, he doesn't seem that stable mentally.
