The Jays only discipline players of color (Osuna and Escobar). White players get away with a slap on the wrist (Pillar).

The White Jays. As it should be.

Giles must have had irreconcilable differences in Houston with management or clubhouse. I like the trade for us but Houston probably likes it from their side too.

Houston it's about playoffs and maybe another World Series (and they aren't likely going away in the next three years with the solid core they have). They have survived making a lot of bad moves in the past, because they have developed a pretty deep org.

That's the question. Does Giles get flipped now? I'm not sure I'd flip him now. Let him rebuild his value next year and then trade him

Agreed. We won't need a closer seeing as Sanchez is the future closer.

Just wondering when Giles gets flipped for a team's failed #10+ prospect next year if we will still all say it's a great trade?

Just wondering when Osuna is found guilty and isn't able to pitch for Houston for a while if you will still say it's a bad deal.

I suspect Giles is about to be flipped.

Immediately? I would be very surprised, who would want to trade for a former closer with mental issues during the season? At the very least he needs to rebuild some value here.

I think he will be able to pitch, just might not be able to pitch in Canada.

Could you imagine what the Blue Jays could have got at last years deadline. The Jays were likely asking for one of Forrest Whitley or Kyle Tucker.

I always say it's better to deal a player a year too soon than a year too late.

Imagine dealing Osuna last season and JD after 2016.

I mean, I generally agree, but you can't use hindsight to this effect.

All and all I am happy with the trade. I think we got good value and significant upside. If Giles gets his head sorted out and continues to strikeout and not walk guys at elite clip this trade could very well be one sided for the Blue Jays when its all said and done.

You can if you believed the tear down should have started a while ago...which I do. Rebuilding teams don't need elite closers.

If we get the pre 2018 Giles we came off pretty good all things considered. I'm gonna miss Osuna but with corporate ownership we all knew they would never abide the dark cloud over his head. On the plus side, we can enjoy watching Happ and Osuna make a mark in the post season.

So basically the teams are swapping one troubled reliever for another

Well sure, if you only want to look at two of the four players involved.

Gilies can come up and be the closer for 2 months and than flip him in the off-season if all goes well. Hes got shelled since being demoted to Triple-A though but his issues appear to be more mental than anything.

SS aside, 1.89 FIP in AAA doesn't scream shelled

I noticed Paulino is currently on the 7 day DL in the minors with a shoulder injury, anyone have any info the severity of it? Has he not pitched since April?

I was able to pick him up from the scrap heap in my fantasy league during the final week of his suspension. And now that hes not closing for a s***** Blue Jays team he became a dream asset closing for a team that will win s*** loads of games down the stretch. FeelsGoodMan

After reading your post I checked my league and snatched him up as well. Worth a shot for reasons you gave

While I don't think this trade could have gone down any better, this is why I hate Houston's success. They make so many stupid trades.

I'm really looking forward to discussing the trade, along with the others, at length this week.
