Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 Oh, so there's zero indication that Paulino is in the deal lol Yeah there's been nothing mentioned about him by any bluecheck twitter people.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 The only thing mentioned has been been Giles plus. Nobody has even speculated on the other prospects coming back.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 Osuna is a really risk acquisition for the Astros. He could be subject to further discipline if his whole DV situation turns up more s*** on him.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 If there isn't a blue chip prospect in this deal, then we are seeing an unimaginably high level of stupidity from Shapiro and Atkins. Elite relievers have garnered similarly elite prospects like Clint Frazier and Gleyber Torres recently.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 30, 2018 Author Posted July 30, 2018 Has he been good this year? Yep. Maybe has spent a bit too much time inside the zone and it's led to some extra hits...but nothing has really changed with him this year in comparison to the past

Not saying I like the trade but this isn't Osuna for a steaming pile of s***. We could easily flip Giles for more prospects.

Unlikely unless there is evidence of further crimes...which at this point it seems like it would have came out if there were

el diego Verified Member Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 Conspiracy theory time: The Jays know some facts that others don't regarding the assault and it is much worse than currently thought, so they shipped him out before they became public. .001% chance of being true but I couldn't help but think of it.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 Yep. Maybe has spent a bit too much time inside the zone and it's led to some extra hits...but nothing has really changed with him this year in comparison to the past I wonder if his demotion was partially Houston leveraging his ERA into service time manipulation?
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 fangraphs tells me giles is just as good as osuna. Is he?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 I wonder if his demotion was partially Houston leveraging his ERA into service time manipulation? I never understood the demotion, his peripherals are elite this year, only his K/9 is down but the swinging strikes are there as is the velocity.

Shatkins needed to focus on getting a decent prospect. If Giles continues and doesn't produce next year again he has almost no trade value, 2 bad years in a row for a reliever means he's getting traded for peanuts.
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 I wonder if his demotion was partially Houston leveraging his ERA into service time manipulation? He was sent down right after he told a coach to f*** off on the mound, so I'd think that would do it
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 The Jays front office should have traded Osuna last off-season though. When you projected out the next 3 years and knowing you wouldn't be competitive that was your time to sell a reliever at an all time high. Will see how they did though. I just can't believe they would have traded Osuna with that much control for something that didn't intrigue them significantly. Unless as others mentioned the Blue Jays know more about the assault or Rogers interfered.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 I never understood the demotion, his peripherals are elite this year, only his K/9 is down but the swinging strikes are there as is the velocity. It was partially due to him and the manager getting into it I believe.

I think it's perfectly plausible that he was traded for less than he could have gone for simply because of the assault and without it being worse than we know and with no interference from Rogers. Not saying it's smart, but it's not something that would surprise me. I know I posted my conspiracy theory above but I don't think there needs to be one for this trade to have happened.
Pulk_Pull Verified Member Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 Curious what the '+' is but I'm in wait-and-see mode on this. If they can 'fix' Giles, he is a candidate to be flipped for a small haul in the next year. People talk about Osuna recouping value, but we also have a chance to do the same with Giles, without the constant headache of assault charges following the team.

There's no reason to believe he's not still elite.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 30, 2018 Author Posted July 30, 2018 I never understood the demotion, his peripherals are elite this year, only his K/9 is down but the swinging strikes are there as is the velocity. The demotion was disciplinary.
Maico450 Verified Member Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 If Osuna is convicted of the assault charge, it may stop him from visa eligibility, No visa- No play. Any decent return here could turn out very good for jays.
Tekkie Verified Member Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 Osuna is better than Giles and much younger as well. If the Jays don't get at least one very good prospect in this deal, it would make two deals in a row which Shapiro got destroyed in.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 Great trade for the Jays. A+
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 Wow that's actually a very good return.
