Great so we don't even have this to look forward to anymore :(

Well, mikem said his xwOBA is 0.344. So his trackman profile is insane! (Given his results)

I would have preferred getting a high level arm like Adams or Loaisiga in the trade, but I am pretty satisfied with Drury and McKinney.

The arms in Low A that everyone seems to be clamouring for are the type of return that a team with no leverage in the midst of a total rebuild will get. They are a good 5 years away and have maybe a 5% chance of ever making a meaningful contribution.

We already have a robust farm system at all levels and we're looking to build a core around Vlad and Bo. This deal will certainly help us in that regard. Shapiro and Atkins are perfectly capable of building a winner and maintaining a strong farm system without bottoming out and tanking.

You like McKinney a lot more than a combo of Roancy Contreras and Gio Gallegos?

Chance Adams has had pedestrian numbers since he left A+.

Billy McKinney is also the type of return that a loser seller settles for.

I keep notes on who likes certain prospects so I can make better trade offers and McKinney is under your name

Who's under my name?

I feel Rays got a better deal for Eovaldi, Rays picked up a starter with considerable upside.

I feel like the Rays got a way better prospect for a way lessor pitcher. Its like we are collecting these average hitters.

I think this is arguable. Yes Beeks has incredible numbers this year, but he's doing it as a 24 year old so it's not as impressive, and he's a pitcher. I think it's a comparable return for what ultimately are two comparable starters, with Happ being much safer and the better performer.

To be fair, McKinney does have an intriguing offensive profile and he's been hitting for power since last year as a 23 year old in Triple A. That's not nothing.

Obviously I would have preferred a guy like Medina or their lower level pitchers, but it seems safe to say those guys were off the table.

23 hrs and about a 130 wRC+ in his last 450 PA's in AAA. His walk rate has plummeted though after posting a 10+ BB% in AA.

Inverse relationship between power and walk rate.

They may have gotten a better return. Then again, Eovaldi's been pitching a lot better than Happ as of late. Happ's performance has decreased every month this season (outside of his xFIP in July)

Value may be fairly close, but McKinney fits a lot better into our timeline for winning. Contreras has interesting stuff, but has no real track record of success outside of 5 starts in low A. He's the type of guy you can get as an IFA. As for Gallegos, I don't place much value on 26 year old relievers with home run problems.

To be honest retooling is more fun than competing.

All of a sudden a bunch of guys who were kind of on the periphery of my fantasy baseball radar a couple of years ago are now Blue Jays!

Terminator said this in the other thread but I think he's right - Drury will actually have four years of control after this one. He'll certainly be under 3.000 years of service time after 2018. If Toronto keeps him down for a bit then maybe he'll even dodge Super 2 status? Not that that matters.

I'd be disappointed if Drury is here for four more years, he's not very good.

Thanks for the scouting report, Robert IV.

Pretty much an industry consensus that Cashman stole Happ. I really would have liked to know what the Brewers were offering.

Most of the bluecheck people on twitter are saying the Jays got a good deal.

We got 1 guy who is versatile and a decent prospect. That's pretty much what I figured we'd get.

Kind of weird to see people say Cashman is a genius and Drury sucks at the same time. He traded his #8 and #14 prospects for him this past offseason

Ross Atkins: “We’re at the point now where our position player talent is very, very strong, and it would be hard to really upgrade.”

The #BlueJays ranked 24th out of 30 teams in positional fWAR entering today. Nine teams have over double their positional WAR (7.6).

I would have rather kept Happ than give him to the Yankees for nothing.

9 years of control over position players that aren't trash is a pretty decent return on a pending UFA that isn't helping your team get to the playoffs.

Neither are likely to be stars, but if you squint you can see a few WAR combined over the next few seasons.

He's probably including the minor leaguers.

It’s still pretty much just Pillar, Smoak, and Vlad that a contending team would want starting in 2019, and a bunch of potentially good players you’d want in a reserve role until/unless they establish themselves (Gurriel, Drury, Grichuk, Diaz, Hernandez etc...

Weird comment to make.
