Ok so...I've been dating women for around two decades now. Never have I felt the need to raise my hand to one nor did I have to defend myself from "crazy" in a physical fashion. Not even close. I have a dozen or so male friends who I'm close enough with to discuss chicks n stuff, and no one has ever brought this up either.

 

Where the hell do you people find these crazy women? Or do you just make this s*** up to make it sound like the Average Joe has got such a hard life? Is kids the key to this? Whiny brats don't shut the hell up and get on the parents nerves so they take it out on each other?

I wouldn’t bring it up to someone I knew. Don’t think most people would.

 

Just because some girls are nuts doesnt mean all or even some majority are. I’ve come across a number of couples getting in a mutual altercation in my line of work so that’s where my perspective comes from

 

Maybe Osuna pulled a Ray Rice though. The immediate backlash from mlb and Jays prob doesn’t bode well as they obviously know the details

In domestic assault charges it is routine for investigators to do a K.G.B statement (video recorded under oath) with the complainant in the early stages. If the complainant has a change of heart the Crown can proceed without his/her consent with that video in their back pocket. If at trial they become an adverse witness the video is played and the Judge can accept the earlier "testimony" as evidence.

Even before this occurs, the complainant can be threatened with criminal charges including public mischief, perjury, and obstruction of justice to compel cooperation (actually laying the charges is something altogether different). Witnesses that fail to appear after a summons has issued can be the subject of a warrant (usually endorsed) and a refusal to answer questions can result in contempt of court charges.

 

In short, reluctant complainants are not a bar to conviction. I would add that the days of just dropping charges or issuing peace bonds are nearing extinction.

Maybe, but in the past news outlets typically had SOME process in place to investigate before reporting. Social media has no such thing, just a bunch of loud mouths trying to use everything to further their agendas.

I'm going to suggest reserving judgement until the facts are on the record. Assault in is broadly defined in Canada. Unwanted physical contact can be assault (ie: pushing, punching, kicking, biting etc.) but so is simply raising your hand like you are intending to slap someone in a threatening manner or grabbing something out of someone's hand. Further, intent can be transferred. For example: a drunk patron at a bar takes a swing at the guy who spilled his drink on him only to miss and hit his own girlfriend.

True. What I'm still saying is if somebody famous, semi-famous accuses X of assault or something in a public way (even if they are completely innocent)... X is now the devil and rejected by society. You would have a hard time getting a cup of coffee after that. That is scary s***.

It's definitely different now adays. I remember Jose Canseco got arrested over a domestic dispute, and it was dealt with with very little fanfare.
