If the cops made an arrest they had probably cause at the scene, not just heresasy.

Apparently in Canada they have to make an arrest. States is different.

So, that he got arrested doesn't really tell us anything about the severity of the offense.

No one in this thread that I can see is calling him the devil or rejecting him. Most have said, lets wait until we have more, information.

They should be saying, let's assume he's 100% innocent unless and until he's convicted of something.

You're out of your gourd. In the USA, a woman only has to show a bruise or a cut and the dude can be arrested. In Canada, she only has to claim she was touched against her will and the guy will be arrested for domestic abuse. No physical evidence is needed for an arrest to take place. And cops will make that arrest because that's just mandatory procedure.

10,000% of the time in cases like these, the girl is a psycho and incredibly hot, she probably saw another girl's text on his phone and smashed his car with a baseball bat. The high status guy tries to break it off with her, she panics and throws a giant shitfit and phones the cops saying she doesn't feel safe; boom, guy is arrested for domestic abuse. If you don't think this is common then you haven't been following the news.

And that's all it takes to derail a $100mil+ career. And people wonder what this MGTOW thing is all about.

This is more or less correct. That a complainant alleges an offence occurred is normally enough for an arrest.

The police need reasonable and probable grounds to make an arrest. However, post-arrest and before a charging information is laid before a Judge it is usually subjected to Crown Prosecutor approval. Normally, when someone is arrested and released on a promise to appear, the Crown Prosecutor's office has yet to see the file. That is in a normal case however in a high profile case the police may seek a Crown opinion in advance.

In domestic assault charges it is routine for investigators to do a K.G.B statement (video recorded under oath) with the complainant in the early stages. If the complainant has a change of heart the Crown can proceed without his/her consent with that video in their back pocket. If at trial they become an adverse witness the video is played and the Judge can accept the earlier "testimony" as evidence.

Even before this occurs, the complainant can be threatened with criminal charges including public mischief, perjury, and obstruction of justice to compel cooperation (actually laying the charges is something altogether different). Witnesses that fail to appear after a summons has issued can be the subject of a warrant (usually endorsed) and a refusal to answer questions can result in contempt of court charges.

In short, reluctant complainants are not a bar to conviction. I would add that the days of just dropping charges or issuing peace bonds are nearing extinction.

No this is not routine at all.....my brother is a criminal lawyer.

Again we have no idea what happened yet, your hypothetical scenario is one of many that could have taken place.

What he said happens more often then you think, I have a pretty good source and have heard quite a bit over the years. Some of the claims some women make are ridiculous unfortunately, that's a fact.

And some guys are reactionary chuds who think they can put a lean on women. People who excuse this behaviour and "victim" blame are garbage. I hope Roberto comes out clean on this.

What kind of nonsense is this Canadian policy not to release the details to not give away the identity of the victim?

Like if it’s reported he punched a woman in the face and dragged her by her hair, how is that going to indentify the victim?

Maybe if the whole night and situation is explained it would reveal the victim but they should give some basic info on the charge. Canada is stupid

Why do you feel that the public is immediately entitled to the details of an ongoing investigation?

This is likely what happened and have experienced it myself a few times when I was young. It's like when you hear about a bombing or shooting in a public place. You know what is going on but you aren't allowed to speculate until eventually you find out the suspects name is Mohammed Saladin and it confirms what you think. Meanwhile people in denial will still try to come up with unrealistic theories to avoid the nasty truth they fail to believe, like women are inherently gold digging psychos.

Because that’s how it is in the US; which like our metric system and everything else, is the proper standard by which others should follow

People are extreme both ways. Though most people are extreme in the other direction from you. But the truth is it could go either way and that’s how it should be approached

The truth is this.

There are women that are gold digging psychos.

There are men that are testosterone filled bullies that think it's ok to abuse.

There are lots of shades in between the two.

We don't know what happened between Osuna and his lady.

We don't want to believe that Osuna is an ******* as many are fans of his and the Blue Jays...and because of this, some hope deep down that his girlfriend is the one that's a numbskull in this situation as she adds nothing to our lives...Roberto's good performance does.

But the bottom line...this should never have happened, regardless of what it is.

Two more facts are, he was released without bond and he wasn't charged with assault causing bodily harm...

Now does that sound like some testosteroned up big strong man physically abusing some weak girl or more of an argument based Fight where the golden goose was at risk?

Furthermore, it probably explains Osunas mental health issues if he was with some manipulative psycho.

He's pretty well finished now.

Who knows?! Maybe charges will be dropped and he's back in a week.

So without knowing a single fact, this has become the woman's fault. She must be a gold digger who has flipped out because perhaps he has a message on his cel phone and now the woman is the cause of his depression.

Why don't we just wait until there are some actual facts. It was not the woman that was arrested, no matter what has gone on. It is well documented that Osuna suffers from depression. I hope that this is all overblown and the police were just removing him from the scene to calm a volatile situation, which is what they do quite often.

He is very young and young people make mistakes, and I hope that this is what this is.

Until then, perhaps the blame the woman segment could lay off.

For all the whining people were eager to do about declaring guilt based only on accusations, the worst posts in this thread have clearly been made by the frustrated incel mgtow crowd.

Here is a stupid question, Lets say Osuna is gone for 80 games. Does that mean that his arbitration renewal for the next year will be cheaper than it would have been? He was at $5.7M last year,

If he's back next year, he won't have a smaller arb salary than what he made this year.

But it would be smaller than what he was going to make had he pitched the full season.

His extreme position is likely born from frustration of the new societal norm of assuming a man is guilty based on accusations. You can deny that is the case all you want but to each their own. There’s been famous people that came out critical of the #metoo movement and the disregard of due process and then they’re quickly forced into damage control and a public apology for thinking the same way an average non-pansy that’s not a liberal does.

It’s like rape. I understand there’s millions that are shamed and never get justice for being raped but that still doesn’t mean psycho girls don’t use it as a revenge or attention seeking tool. I’m sure that’s a small percentage in normal life but when it comes to celebs I bet that fake rape claim jumps up about 1000%

This.

I don't think anyone is, or will ever, condone any sort of abuse done to another human. What many are frustrated with is exactly what you pointed out. Accusation = guilt in today's Social Media society. There is no time or desire for due process. It's automatic guilt, getting up on your soapbox, and grandstanding. If at the end of the day, a person is found guilty, then punish them swiftly and harshly...but let the process play out. If we start skipping that crucial step, society is heading down a very slippery slope.
