Just QO the man. He had a 150 wRC+ in 2017 for f***s sake and was worth 5 WAR as a neutral defender.

$20M for one year of his services is a steal.

Unless the team legit wants to tank to the bottom in 2019, which is fine too I guess.

I doubt his services will ever be as good as they were.

They can also just QO the douche (seriously though, make it a term of his contract that he has to start eating meat again) and then endeavor to dump him at the first demonstration of semi-consistent health in the early months, to the first team that offers an A- prospect, even eating some of the future money to do it.

They can think of it as purchasing a prospect! Even if all they get is a prospect at the back-end of the top 100, that prospect is probably worth $15-20 million on paper.

Like if LAA said right now - they'll give Toronto Griffin Canning for $10M cash money... Toronto probably says sure.

….and that he can't be his own trainer in the off season.

The conversation was clearly about next seasons win projections. Seems like you're pretending to be stupid to back down from a bet.

I expected more from you.

Well in retrospect BTS did say win projections after my original posts, but I didn't really read that before I responded to his post. My intentions were straight up wins.

Unless its like this year ….20 mil for 36 gmes (in which the guy couldn't throw a baseball from 3rd to first) Not sure if that's a steal

5WAR Donaldson gives you a lot more than $20M of value though, so that's where the tough decision comes in regarding his health and the likelihood he can return to that form.

I'm fairly certain he said "They’ll probably project at around 0.500 come opening day." before you chimed in.

Also, you offered a $50 bet after he clarified the win projections again.

Board cred down the drain, tercet..

Yes, I read the discussions regarding the future outcomes of Bichette. It's not relevant.

Damn plays 5 innings and gets hurt again.

Can't blame them if they don't want to qualify him, they probably know this is an injury that will nag him forever.

I said two times before BTS post that we will win 65-75 games.

Look I'm guilty of not reading through his post of "projected wins", I assumed straight up wins.

I'm not trying to scam/deceit BTS. If you think I am, I guess we should do 50$ on projected wins?

How about we do 25$ for projected and 25$ actual wins?

I'm cool having Donaldson back on a one year deal.

I think the Jays will be a better team next year. More depth. More prospects pushing to be in the Majors.

It'll be a fun off season.

If they don’t want to qualify him it’s either because they think his injury has destroyed him or because the budget is going to shrink and they want to allocate resources for more long term assets. Maybe a little of both.

Then of course there’s the whole Vlad at 3b issue. Plus they liked Drury enough to trade their most desirable trade asset for him so I’m sure they want to give him 3b reps as well.

Losing JD for nothing (like, nothing in the literal sense) is happening folks. Keeping a player too long 101.

Gotta keep in mind that they have Tulo as wasted money. Hopefully he will quit and go home but I doubt it. Keeping Bautista was easier because its RF. I think JD will be a DH if he stays with Toronto. It may be especially true if Morales gets traded.

It was so damn obvious after his 2017 2nd half that it was time to trade him. I don't get it.

Is it true the Cards offered Flaherty+ ?

I wonder if Morales' streak has created even a remote chance that someone might want him this month... maybe if Toronto eats a bunch of the 2019 money... hmm probably not

I doubt it. Teams would probably favor the positional flexibility of other players. You'd have to think Smoak could generate some interest in the next day or two if someone loses a 1B though.

Hopefully Rogers learned a valuable lesson here.

Yea don't try to compete when your front office is telling you the window is closed.

Shatkins fail. Everyone knew he had to go last deadline. A legit top 50 prospect for him would have sure looked good now.

When I think of career ending injury, I don't think of a pulled calf muscle. Do we have the worst medical staff in professional sports? Can we not get proper medical specialists, physio therapists, elite trainers to solve this issue between now and next year? Drury is hot garbage. Why would we rather gamble on a guy who's never done it than gamble on a guy who was one of the leagues best players. 18 mlllion for a Donaldson will seem like a steal if he returns to form next year. Guerrero isn't a 3rd baseman. Move one of Morales or Smoak in the off season or throw Vlad in left for a year. They can make things work if Donaldson accepts the qualifying offer. Not extending him and getting nothing for him would be sheer lunacy.

It's almost like eating entirely plant-based foods is, like, really, really bad for the human body and causes it to break down where it should be able to recover itself and heal common injuries.

Does he really not eat meat?

I've not seen it confirmed anywhere, but it's been speculated because he's dating a vegan self-proclaimed nutritionist. He also said this in an interview from April 2017:

Donaldson wishes he could be more of a presence in the city, but he is laser-focused on his goals. He is, however, open to changing his habits. Recently, he’s been seeing Briana Miller, a gregarious, tattooed ex-bartender and militant vegan. She’s an unflappable optimist whose Instagram account is filled with inspirational quotes—“Authenticity Is So Gangster” and “Be a Badass Love Beam” among them. Briana pushes Donaldson to improve his eating habits (fewer hush puppies, more hummus) and moderates his hermetic tendencies. Lately, she’s been encouraging him to turn off the PlayStation and take more walks. “So,” he says wanly, “I guess I’m going to go for walks.”

Sounds like she wears the pants.

I’m wondering the same. I know his gf is vegan but I’ve never seen anything about him giving up meat.

Trust me, when your gf is vegan, you either ditch her or become vegan. The power of the pussy is strong
