I look forward to July 8th, 2018 when re-evaluation day comes for Vlad and its announced he will be returning to action on July 9th.

 

Didn't you hear? He's retiring from baseball at the tender age of 19

I've never said he is going to retire. I was quite precise on my prediction. In that the injury is serious, effects his long term outcome, and he is basically going to skip the first half of Frank Thomas's career and start off at the second half. That is still a helpful player. Some almost MVP seasons between injuries and absences, a decent but frustrating dh.

 

I hope I'm wrong. I hope on July 9th he is playing and raking. I suspect we just won't hear anything, and before you know it, it will be August, and the rest of the board we'll be freaking out, and realistically there won't be time for him to come back for the minor league season (it ends Sep 1st or so).

Who the f*** is Darnell Sweeney?

 

A below average bat for sure (think a lesser version of Pillar) utility IF/OF - can play pretty much anywhere on the diamond and even threw an inning for Buffalo earlier this year. facing 4 batters, striking out 1.

 

This year he's played LF, RF, 2B, SS and 3b, and has played CF as well in prior seasons.

They have a pretty good farm... good match.

 

Outside of Hiura some of their top guys seem to be having down years. Still enough there to put a good package together though.

 

Until then let's all dream about adding Hiura's bat to the system.

Yeah, that's the obvious ask... guys like Burnes/Phillips/Erceg, oh s***, and Peralta would be great.

I will always admit when I am wrong. This week all indications are Vladimir Jr. is on track to come back soon. Very good news if accurate. I have tentatively returned Vladimir up to fourth on my top 100 Blue Jay prospects, behind Alford, Bichette, and Smith. (I had dropped Vlad to 11th in the Jays system at the peak of "re-evaluate-gate".

 

Alford (climbing) - Don't let the Buffalo numbers fool you. Best Athlete in the system, think Kevin Pillar with a .350 on base percentage. 6 WAR per year.

 

Bo Bichette (falling) - Went 0/5 yesterday. A few cold streaks this year are concerning, but scouts say his defense has improved 4.8 WAR per year.

 

Kevin Smith (climbing) - Hit a homerun yesterday. Numbers look good. Striking out to much in Dunedin. 4.6 WAR per year.

 

Vlad Guerrero (climbing) - Health is coming around. Our projections last week had him in the Nick Johnson health level, but we've moved him up to Mike Greenwell health level. If current trends continue, and he defeats this injury he could move even higher. (4.3 WAR per year, in projected 107 games per year)

Too bad they didn't show a side view of the catch, I love it when you can see the player snare the ball beyond the wall.

... I mean, I think Alford has potential to be great, but you think he'll be a top 10 player in baseball year over year? That seems unlikely.

Anthony Alford sucks. Oft-injured 4th OF. He's Dalton Pompey 2.0.

 

I know he's only a few years into his professional baseball career, but at some point you need consistent results, and he's looked pretty awful this season with that k-rate.

Yeah and he tried playing football for a while too so along with the injuries he doesn't have a ton of ABs, despite his age. Maybe he's a guy that needs to play in the minors until he's 25 and then it'll start clicking.

I would lose my s*** if they could add Hiura.

 

But that's fantasy, Hiura could reasonably be a September callup and be a solid contributer to the Brewers' playoff run. It makes no sense for them to trade a controllable, near ready bat for a non-elite rental.

This is what I like to see. Move guys that have actual value (beyond Happ). It's not like our controllable guys are all Stars in the making. Gimme prospects all over the damn place.

Tepera will have value, but Solarte is the same dude he always was, and the Jays got him for nothing. Not sure it's even worth trading him for crap as he can at least cover some positions in the short term but hey if someone wants to overpay for him be my guest. Pillar, Smoak, and Tepera would be the guys I'd look to move, in addition to the expiring vets.

I could see moving Oh as well. That cheap option, combined with how he's pitching atm, could potentially bring something intriguing. Maybe package him with Happ.
