I don't think that's the case. When Goins first came up he made a bunch of really slick defensive plays, and people remember that. Same with Johnny Mac. They made watching defense fun. Once you get that perception into your head, it tends to stick even if it's no longer true.

Not only that but he hit .455 with a bunch of groundball singles in his first week of games. People like Gruber loved it.

If Goins caught that pop up in game 2 of the ACLS where Price was cursing before imploding after getting rattled we probably win that game. I will forever remember Goins for that. Plus watching him try to hit was torture. I don't understand why so many casuals love him so much. You would think casuals would like guys who hit homeruns or something.

Defining play in us not winning the World Series that year.

fWAR (which incorporates both defensive and offensive numbers, since anyone who supports Goins likely doesn't know that sort of thing...)

Goins in 1409 career PA: -0.3

Travis in 908 career PA: 4.7

I mean. Suggesting that Goins is better than Travis is a dumb argument made by dumb people.

It's because Toronto fans are f***ing lazy and pretty bias. They don't do research, they listen to the broadcasters and analysts that ONLY belong to the home team (in this case it's Sportsnet), and during that two year run, I was 50/50 on listening to the TV team and 590 team, and they both baby Goins. The only expectation the broadcast and analyst teams in the city is defensive expectations. Anything offence is extra at that point. They went as far as labeling him as a defensive gem and still didn't rail on his poor offence. That's why he would get less stick than Reyes and Tulo, because the narrative is that he's a defensive shortstop while the other two have the bat tool, and therefore Goins is excused of critisizm. Most of the fanbase were then led that having a defense only shortstop

Also let's not forget, as much as I loved his character growing up, John "Minister of Defence" McDonald was a regular shortstop in the city for years so we were "used" to that makeup for a shortstop

Today's game has now been postponed, make up date May 3rd.

good , dont mind getting another day off for the bulpen especially....

Every game without JD that can be punted down the road while he recovers is a positive.

In this case we also miss Kluber, so double win (unless he goes tomorrow, but that might be postponed too)

Would be truly a shame if Jackie Robinson gets rained out. But yea I just looked at the forecast no chance that game is getting played.

Blue Jays will be wearing their Jackie Robinson day jerseys tomorrow at home instead. Great to see because Granderson is donating his "game worn" cleats to the HOF

Yeah the Jays caught a break. Double headers sucks but they need as many games with JD as possible.

The way it's lining up Jays will end up playibg 22 games in 20 days

Get ready for a lot of Maile, and Gift. They will likely start 8 of those games.

With Maile's (seemingly) improved hitting and elite framing, I can tolerate him. Gift is an offensive black hole and needs to go.

wait what? What stretch of games are you looking at? This would require 2 doubleheaders

FYI Blair promised a big surprise tomorrow, I think Bautista is retiring and he will be on the Blair show.

If true - why the f*** would Jose choose go announce it with Jeff Blair? Was Barker booked?

I never thought i would be longing for Barney and Goins but I am...

The 28 year old Gift has got to go.

Joe Biagini is being called up to start Game 2 of the doubleheader tomorrow.

Taking advantage of the 26th man for double headers. Will keep everyone on normal rest once we finally get through the 3 off days.

Thing is, Gift is supposed to be the 3rd backup behind Solarte and Diaz. Essentially, if we were in this position last year, Goins would be starting at SS, Barney at 3B and we'd be using Urena in Gift's current role. He's cheap and has options, and he will go when Donaldson/Tulo are back (the latter may be in 2145, but y'know...)

No you're not. Gift is on the team because Tulo is hurt. If he wasn't hurt, Gift would be in AAA as depth. If either Barney or Goins were on the team and Tulo was healthy - they'd be released (unless they accept assignment to AAA) and we wouldn't have any depth.

Darwin Barney is a free agent. Wouldn't mind giving him a minor league deal. But we are much better shape infield wise this year.

EDIT: I have a feeling we aren't going to see Tulo this year.

Hopefully never again.
