Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 Gurriel up, Ngoepe gone. Me likey. That's really happening? Good!
AledmysDiaz Verified Member Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 In colder temperatures its a lot harder to throw a curve ball, because your hands get slick. Its hard to get a feel for it, and it increases the risk of blisters.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 That's really happening? Good! I just got a Sportsnet alert saying Jays will option Ngoepe and Mayza, promote Gurriel. I'm guessing also Morales off the DL?

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 LGJ Time! I hope hes in the line up tonight!
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 I'm excited to see what he can do, would be hard not to be an upgrade over Ngope at this point.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 LGJ Time! I hope hes in the line up tonight! Might be a good time. Travis' foot is probably pretty sore after the foul ball.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 This news make me really happy. EDIT: Link https://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-expected-call-gurriel-jr-option-mayza-ngoepe/
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 Might be a good time. Travis' foot is probably pretty sore after the foul ball. Also: Devon Travis has been shockingly bad at baseball in 2018. He needs to earn his starting job at this point.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 Might be a good time. Travis' foot is probably pretty sore after the foul ball. He can slide right into Second Base. I assume the lineup will look something like this tonight. LF Granderson RF Hernandez 1B Smoak 3B Solarte DH Morales C Martin CF Pillar SS Diaz 2B Gurriel Jr Bench: Maile Pearce Travis Grichuk
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 Gift being demoted brings a tear to my eye. He was so bad that I dreaded him even being on the roster. Now just take him off the 40 man and let me breathe easier.
The Iceman Verified Member Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 Cut Morales, bring up Vladdy to play 3rd and Solarte is our new 2nd baseman. That makes our team better doesn't it?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 Also: Devon Travis has been shockingly bad at baseball in 2018. He needs to earn his starting job at this point. He might be a slow starter. I seem to remember him doing this before and then going on a tear (and then getting hurt).
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2018 Author Posted April 20, 2018 Gurriel has 6 years left on his contract- if he sticks he's going to be here forever. If he can play 2B and SS it's great, if he can play some outfield as well then even better.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2018 Author Posted April 20, 2018 He might be a slow starter. I seem to remember him doing this before and then going on a tear (and then getting hurt). The concerning thing is that previous slow starts were blamed on limited spring training because of injuries. But yeah, when he's on, he's one of our most consistent hitters.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 I'm excited to see what he can do, would be hard not to be an upgrade over Ngope at this point. You're an upgrade over Ngope.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 Also: Devon Travis has been shockingly bad at baseball in 2018. He needs to earn his starting job at this point. Just from the old eye test, he's looked pretty s***** at 2B as well. I'd like to see Solarte take his spot when JD is back.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 Cut Morales, bring up Vladdy to play 3rd and Solarte is our new 2nd baseman. That makes our team better doesn't it? Sir - this isn't the facebook or TSN comment section.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 LGJ - a new shiny toy! me so happy! Seriously though - how awesome is it to have depth? Remember when Jonathan Diaz would be the injury call up?
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 I just got a Sportsnet alert saying Jays will option Ngoepe and Mayza, promote Gurriel. I'm guessing also Morales off the DL? Have to give credit where credit is due. I like this move very much... (Although I don't like only Loup as a Lefty), but best move considering the options) I have a sneaking feeling, which will be a good thing, that Gurriel will make it hard for them to send him down when JD comes back and they will need to look elsewhere...

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 Who'd get the axe? I don't think there would be an axe, and LGjr would go down, I just think he meant he wants LGjr to play so well that they Jays really don't want to, but have to anyways. Really the only axeworthy guy on the roster is Morales... but I don't think they're ready to bite that bullet yet. I know Grichuk has struggled, but there's clearly upside there if they can figure out the right way to tap into it, plus he actually has defensive and baserunning value.

I would like to see a lot of mixing and matching with Diaz, Solarte, Gurriel, Travis at 2B/SS. You hit, you play.
AledmysDiaz Verified Member Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 I hope Guerriel gets a lot of playing time.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 Gurriel!!!!!! It's going to be fun tonight!!
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 Cut Morales, bring up Vladdy to play 3rd and Solarte is our new 2nd baseman. That makes our team better doesn't it? What is with everyone trying to burn Vladdy's service time? Christ, just brutal asset management if you bring him up now.

I'd be telling Vladdy he can come up next week if he signs a 7 year contract to buy out his arb years + 1.

Hell give him 100 MIL extension now and don't worry lol

By the time it matters, the rules for service time might have changed anyway after the new Collective Bargaining Agreement in 2022. That said, I think it'd be too early to call him up now. September? Maybe. Next year - starting 3B assuming JD leaves.
