TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 And he liked my tweet. Once again people are misunderstanding Bauer though. He isn't even saying he should win. He is saying that it doesn't make sense the way people vote. I can't imagine how much better he will need to be than his peers to win one now
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 Trevor never disappoints on Twitter. IMO you'll never get old school anti analytics people to buy in when you have such large differences in WAR from the 2 most widely used sources. They can just dismiss it as being too subjective when compared to traditional stats like ERA. It'd be better if the MLB could use an official WAR stat instead endorsing one methodology. TBF Kyle Freeland had 8.2 bWAR (4th best in MLB) and 4.2 fWAR (16th best in MLB), that's crazy.

That's because their version of pitching WAR uses ERA+ I think, which relies too much on the defense and batted ball luck.

bzapple Verified Member Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 Rangers sign Jeff Mathis to a two year deal. It's actually kind of remarkable that Mathis has a career 50 wRC+ and -1.2 WAR in 836 games, yet still continues to get guaranteed MLB contracts.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 Listen to Radio Scouts EP 9 next week for Bauer content. I actually just sent P2F a PM to suggest that you guys discuss him and try and get a sound bite that you can send to him. Him liking my tweet got a lot of activity for me (89 likes and a bunch of new followers). Even better would be to ask him to come on to the show.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 Rendon 11th in MVP voting. So underrated.

I would love to have a real conversation with Trevor, let him air out whatever he wants to but we are likely too small time for his presence. He's quickly becoming one of my favourite players in the game, well past his on field performance. So refreshing to see a very intelligent player being very active and vocal with fans about pretty much everything.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 Bad deal for Boston. Everyone knows Pearce is only good in even numbered years. Should have gotten a 2nd year option.

Pray that his operation goes smoothly. https://www.mlb.com/news/dodgers-kenley-jansen-to-have-heart-surgery/c-300850794 I wonder if it's an ablation procedure. If so, I had that done a couple years ago. I ended up with a blood clot afterwards and was on blood thinners for months. A lot can go wrong, though it shouldn't/probably won't.

Jansen already had an ablation some years back. I think it’s more of the same, although it’s safe to say he won’t be traveling with the team for any more trips to Denver.

A bit of classic baseball, a bit of Miami Vice, a good tie-in to the team's past logos and colours. A lot better than the garish orange/yellow/blue s***.

Not sure about the uniforms, but they are a huge improvement over the current ones.

Love the new logo, and I love how downplayed the colours are compared to the current ones.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2018 Posted November 17, 2018 Boras must love the Phillies owner: “We’re going into this expecting to spend money. And maybe even be a little bit stupid about it. We just prefer not to be completely stupid.” That's not a fair fight.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2018 Posted November 18, 2018 This is kinda funny (which doesn't seem usual for Cashman): “Does he want to come back? Yeah, but he said the same thing to me that he said to the public — he’s got to do what is in the best interests of his family,” Cashman said of Robertson, who’s acting as his own agent. “He’s looking for the best deal he can get. He must have already went to agent school; that’s normally the first thing you hear. There must be a playbook.”

Sounds like it's a pulmonary vein isololation ablation procedure for atrial fibrillation. There are risks but recovery is quick. It's his second one by the sounds of it. First go round is generally only successful 60-70% of the time. A second procedure brings success rates up to 80% or so. Even if it fails again, medical therapy is usually pretty good at controlling it anyway.
