Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 I guess Mike Elias will also hire Joe Espada to manage then. Likely.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 Even with a smart front office it will take at least five years for the O’s to be good again. s***** mlb team, s***** farm system, and ignored international market for years. They are pretty much starting from nothing.

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 Who do you guys think will land James Paxton? If the Yankees don't sign Happ, I see them going that route.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 (edited) Astros Hmm... who do you think gets it done, heading back to the M's? Josh James Cionel Perez J.B. Bukauskas Seth Beer/Alvarez Something of this ilk? Edit: For the Yankees... Bird Frazier Adams Florial/Medina??? Edited November 14, 2018 by Spanky99
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 Well Astros were willing to give up Bukauskas and Stubbs for 2 months of Harper so they probably go in there. Especially since the M's just traded their only good catcher Zunino. M's are pretty dumb and overvalue positional need so they might go for a guy like Myles Straw to play CF and run fast. But there has to be a headliner and there will be a big market for Paxton so maybe Yordan Alvarez is the big piece (also since the M's need a 1B, Evan White might play a corner if he can actually hit). Maybe Alvarez, Bukauskas, Stubbs and Straw. Or maybe Cionel Perez since I don't think the Astros view him as a SP and maybe the M's do. M's can ask for Tucker or Whitley but I don't think that will ever happen. I don't think the Astros would pay that much for a SP when they can just grab a decently talented guy somewhere else and throw pine tar all over him. Sweet, I had 3 of your 4 in there...
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 exactly. swing and a miss Jim. No swing and miss. You don't think Duvall could hit 40 at RC?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 No swing and miss. You don't think Duvall could hit 40 at RC? Isn’t Great American Bandbox even smaller and more HR prone than RC?
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 Isn’t Great American Bandbox even smaller and more HR prone than RC? Of course, but i wasnt comparing parks.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 Isn’t Great American Bandbox even smaller and more HR prone than RC? Yes, it's why I responded with the ESPN link. I can't see him hitting 40, it's possible, yet quite unlikely. Jim's dumn as another reason to post said link after calling the RC a bandbox, he's already pack pedalling.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 Adam Duvall SsssssSSSUUUUUUUXXXXXxxxxx x Xx.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 Duvall is just a stopgap, 1 year deal guy ideally. He could be knocking them out at a 40 home run clip in the Jay's bandbox with above average defence and can be moved at deadline This is all a rebuilding team wants from non tenders, really http://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/parkfactor No swing and miss. Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 Snell and deGrom win the respective Cy Youngs. I personally wouldn't have picked Snell but he definitely had a solid case, good thing the voters weren't f***ing idiots this time around on the NL side, though I wonder how much voter fatigue on Scherzer's side played a part.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 Upon further review I actually really don't like the Snell selection, he almost definitely won it on the basis of ERA and wins. There were several candidates that had a much stronger case. Oh well, at least deGrom didn't get screwed.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 There's probably a quality of competition metric somewhere for pitchers but I'm too lazy to look. I don't know if Snell should get some extra credit for facing NYY and BOS six times this year while Verlander and Cole faced them 4 times combined. I feel like quality of competition should be in there somewhere considering Kluber, Carrasco and Bauer have 3.5 minor league teams in their division. I don't know if I would vote for Snell or not but I think the teams you face matter a bit when you only play like 30 games and not 162. VERLANDER... cf

There were basically 7 worthy candidates, all of whom were spread in xFIP by less than 0.25 points. Verlander probably should have won it based on his ratios and innings, but I don't feel like there was a wrong choice.

I feel like if you were going to give it to someone who didn't really have the innings, at least give it to Sale who was far and away the best pitcher of the bunch. Verlander should have taken it on the basis of excellent performance over more innings in a non-AL Central division.

Like I said, I'm okay with it but probably would have voted for Verlander myself.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 Bauer coming in 6th is almost as bad as Markakis Silver Slugger. Showing just how disliked he is...he got 1 5th place vote from the 2 Cleveland voters. Overall I didn't think there was a wrong answer for Cy this year. If you believe in volume you vote for Verlander or Kluber. If Volume matters less to to you...Sale, Snell and Bauer were all legit choices.
