How many years Darvish receives isn't nearly as worrisome as how many we're giving Jay Bruce? Is there any way, given this FO love affair with him in the past, he isn't misplaying balls in LF for us next season?

Don't worry so much about what you hear. They were likely only interested in him if he came over for nothing. That's why the trade never happened. I kinda wish we did get him because not acquiring him probably went into the decision of giving Morales a 3 year deal.

Bruce is going to need to DH. If he can't play 1B. He's not a fit.

I'm fairly sure that Shatkins can see the obvious glut we have in the outfield right now. Pompey, Alford and Teo are basically right there (and all on the 40 man), and we have Pillar, Carrera and Pearce already on the big club. Signing an OF seems unlikely to me, unless they bring back Bautista because of some misguided fan loyalty thing.

Carrera non-tender candidate this offseason?

Aoki seems to be a sure thing to be non-tendered. Maybe they'd still be interested in re-signing him, but I can't see wanting to pay a guy like him $6-7 million in arb.

Yeah, zero chance they tender Aoki a contract

Carrera is a tough call. He makes some bone-headed mistakes defensively but over the past two seasons he's gotten 547 PA and has been worth 1.6 WAR. Not bad for a bench player who doesn't make much. My main concern is that he's a LF only so one of our other OFers has to be able to play backup CF. Hernandez can play CF so if he's on the team we are covered. Signing Jarrod Dyson to play RF would also allow Zeke to be a 4th OF.

Pompey is basically a bust with us, and Pearce will hopefully be a part time OF when we trade one of the 3 1B/DH players.

Very little chance Carrera is non tendered, he's a very cheap 4 OF who's been OK in that role for 3 years.

If Alford and Hernandez turn into competent starters next year then we're good, but if they don't we're short.

This FO likes to have insurance so I think they'll target a OF in the offseason.

The Reds were eating up $8mm of Bruce's salary from what I remember reading at the time. Between that and the extra year of control, it made sense for the Jays to value Bruce more than a one legged man. In hindsight, Bruce in left, Pearce at DH, and Morales on another team would have looked hella good right about now.

The fact that Atkins guessed right on Smoak and Bruce gives me some hope for Morales, I guess.

I say he gets traded during august, except if by a mircale we have a long winning streak (which wouold be possible had osuna not had 2 BS within a week)

Maybe it's unwarranted, but I still haven't given up on Dalton Pompey. I was hoping this was the season where he finally could've broken out, especially with all the OF injuries.

At least we've got another year of options on him because of all the injuries.

It would be wise to pick up another OF but with all the holes we have I'm not sure if we will. I think getting a LF who can play IF like Kendrick or Nunez would be a great addition. When Travis inevitably gets hurt then we could slide Nunez/Kendrick to 2B and plug in one of Hernandez/Alford/Pompey etc.

Yeah I like that idea.

Gurriel could be that guy too if we can't acquire anyone suitable.

Honestly, I just can't see it. Alford, Hernandez and arguably Smith Jr are probably first in line ahead of him for a 25 man spot.

He only ever got one chance and he messed it up. I agree that this was his year, with us not in a playoff race and all the injuries he would have likely had another chance, but he was injured again.

Maybe he gets a shot if we have another injury marred season, but I think it's more likely he's part of a trade to take advantage of what little prospect capital he still has.

I didn't think of Nunez. He'd be an excellent addition.

I don't think we really have that many holes to fill assuming Estrada comes back. A 5th starter, an OF, and infield depth? Lots of teams have more spots to fill this offseason. Plus we have internal options as well now for people in the OF.

We have a lot of money coming off the books. This FO is all about insurance. I wonder if they go after an ace caliber starter like Darvish in the offseason just in case Sanchez' injury woes continue or Estrada doesn't bounce back. Although Darvish has had his own injury woes in recent years.

Both players would be nice fits to this roster. Would definitely add balance and some flexibility in case Travis goes down with an injury again.

I think they can both play 3B to cover Donaldson as well. I'd like to get a good backup SS too. Sogard isn't bad and I'm sure they'll be some guys who get non-tendered who would be good fits as well.

This FO also seems very concerned about fan perception and ensuring they continue to sell 3 million tickets/year. They are not prepared to try to sell rebuilding to the fanbase, only retooling. Which I actually think is the right call for 2018 as our real exciting prospects aren't ready for the MLB next year. The hype train is building Vladdy Jr and Bo already but they wont help sell MLB tickets until they are actually in the MLB.

I am not sure who they will target, but they have shown to be aggressive and will have the money. It sounds like they believe Estrada can bounce back and will be relatively cheap based on this years performance.

Maybe Pompey does have more value to this team as trade bait. If we can trade him as the centerpiece for a controllable 5th starter or infield depth, that might be the way to go. Especially since we have a lot of OF depth as it is.

This offseason will speak volumes about this front office. First offseason after a failed season with playoff hopes. Lots of money coming off the books. Let's see what they end up doing.

They just put Bautista on waivers? What took them so long but why did they wait until he is not batting that well since the all star break! They could of did it more better than the way they did it, no wonder why ATKINS never made the playoffs when he was in Cleveland! He should of stayed there no professionalism at all, that's a low blow. Bautista still is a good player, even his runs are at 60 and I was even thinking about adding him when his slump is over. Look at Russel Martin, he didn't bat worth of crap in the playoffs. Look at Aaron baby Sanchez who refuses to play for the Blue Jays this year! If that does not say that the Blue Jays are sitting well then what does one need to say?

You've never heard of the waiver trade deadline have you?

Oy this is a whole new level of uninformed stupidity

I just watched tim and sid and someone called and made a comparison to another player who refused to play for there respective team and the topic of aaron Sanchez came up, he has barely played for the jays this year. Do you think this applies to Aaron Sanchez? If I were to trade players I would trade sanchez and possibly even tulowitzki. I thought he would adapt here in Toronto but he has shown some signs of brilliance over the past years but it is clear he is not adapting very well in Toronto. When I look at him everyday its like he is playing with a broken heart, does it hurt that much to play in Toronto? Coming from a team where he was a favourite and then he gets traded for the first time, a lot of players bloom in these situations but he has obviously not!

of tough loss last night after Estrada finally gave us a good game! I think its time the blue jays thought about next year. But like they said the American league is so tight right now the Blue Jays have a good shot to make it to the playoffs if they can get a good run going!

id say get rid of atkins. Cleveland never made the playoffs until he left I guess whether the blue jays put a playoff team on the field is up to atkins.

Pompey is still young enough to possibly rebound, but it is becoming less and less likely.

Carrera is making $1.2M this season, and is on pace for about 1.3 fWAR. I wonder what he will get in 2018, $2M ?

It seems the Jays would likely target a corner outfielder with 20-30 HR potential in free agency if the price is right, but there is not much out there other than Bruce, Martinez, and Carlos Gonzales (who is having a disastrous season).
