havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 Angel Hernandez can f*** right off. Maybe they would have picked him if he wasn't terrible at his job. lol what an *******. Maybe if your name wasn't synonymous with "Worst Umpire" then they probably would have given you a shot.

Didn't someone on here post a site once that tracked and graded umpires ability to call games behind the plate? I kind of want to know where he ranks, my guess would be bottom third of umpires.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 Angel Hernandez can f*** right off. Maybe they would have picked him if he wasn't terrible at his job. Holy s***, what a joke. He's literally the worst umpire in baseball.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 How in the f*** Holy s*** that has to be up there for play of the year.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 Hell of a lot better than Jeter vs the As.
Hipfan Verified Member Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 How in the f*** I really hate that he plays for Boston. That's an awesome play.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 I look forward to Grant calling that an average play and calling Pedroia a scumbag for no reason whatsoever.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 Grant will probably blame Russia. Wtf? It was a good play, nice reaction to the deflection and sidearm toss to first while he lost his footing.

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 Don't know if anyone posted this but yesterday was Bobby Bonilla day. http://www.espn.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/125162/happy-bobby-bonilla-day-his-annual-1-19-million-payday-is-here "Every July 1, from 2011 to 2035, the Mets make the ($1,193,248.20) payment as part of deferring the $5.9 million the Mets owed him from the 2000 season, a year in which he didn't play for the team, because they released him in January. As noted last year, Bonilla's agent worked out a deal that deferred payment (with an 8 percent annual interest rate)." Considering how quickly baseball has grown in terms of revenues, player salaries and franchise value, this really wasn't such a bad deal for the Mets. What does $1.2 million get you nowadays in terms of talent? The league minimum salary will be more than that long before 2035 comes. Meanwhile the Mets could have used that $6M saved to bring in other talent that helped them get to the World Series that year.

It was very specifically Mike Hampton, who threw 16 shutout innings in the NLCS. Best part of it is that when Hampton walked and signed with the Rockies, the Mets got a compensatory pick...David Wright. While the Madoff part of the deal famously flopped...the actual end result was pretty good for the Mets
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 If I was an agent or an exec I'd structure as many deals like this as possible. Baseball will continue to grow in revenues and salaries at an absurd rate unless there is severe economic issues. Which in that case, everyone would have bigger problems to worry about than their baseball team paying retired players anyways. From a players perspective this equalizes the generational gap between salaries (though this is much less of an issue than it was back in the 1970's or earlier) and ensures that we don't hear pathetic stories of retired players in poverty because of poor decisions made in their youth.

Has it ever been announced what Cinci got for their TV deal this year? I know it was 15 years but an amount was never disclosed at the time. 2021 (the MLB deal) will be an interesting deal. I don't see it increasing in value.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Indians offense is MIA vs. the crappy Padres so far... it's like watching the Jays right now--both teams have disappointed on the field this year, as the Indians are having trouble holding off the surging Royals (who are leading Seattle right now) and Twins (who beat the Angels).. and not much help in the wild card either, as Tampa won again.. And it's still shocking the Cubs are under .500 at midpoint...
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Uh... WTF was that??? Kluber pitches a gem and loses because the Padres' Trevor Cahill and the bullpen shut out the Indians... at a time Cleveland needs a lot of wins.
