Best starting pitcher since...

Pedro???

Randy Johnson pitched way too long trying to get 300 wins, but I'll take prime Big Unit over anyone, all time.

290+ K in 9 different seasons, that's f***ing insane.

I don't blame him one bit. 300 wins is an iconic number.

In 2001, he almost had a 400 K season lol. Nobody has reached close to 372 K's since then.

It was an important number back then for a starting pitcher. 300 wins meant getting into the HOF. Don't think its the case anymore however.

Still if you're close to that milestone, why not? I would try and reach it. Not sure we'll see another 300 game winner again in today's age. Sabathia is probably the next one if he keeps pitching beyond 40.

Kershaw might have a shot if he stays healthy. He could realistically be at 200 wins at age 32.

I really doubt it was ever a factor in whether or not Johnson made the HOF; however, regardless of how important pitching wins really are, it will always remain an iconic baseball number and one worth chasing if you're close as there's a chance he'll be the last pitcher ever to reach the milestone.

Hey guys, Pat Tabler and Harold Reynolds aren't here. We don't have to pretend pitcher wins matter.

meh - I think there will always be a place for counting stat milestones. One could argue against the merits of 3,000 hits, 500 HRs, etc. But as a fan, they are still cool and will remain iconic numbers.

I personally count Catcher Saves.

Isn't the point of playing to win? There's nothing more important than wins.

Apparently the Cubs offer Schwarber for either Fulmer or Daniel Norris (although apparently they are much more interested in Fulmer, obviously).

Weird considering how much better Fulmer is than Norris.

Crediting the starting pitcher with the win is retarded. It's a team sport, of which the starting pitcher is but one of around 13 players to be involved in the game at any time.

Naming this stat "win" is the only reason anyone cares about it at all. If it had a more appropriate name like "game where starter held the lead when he left the game then the rest of the team didn't blow that lead" no one would give a s*** about it due to the completely arbitrary nature of how it is awarded.

Probably because Norris spends the off-season living out of a van instead of at the gym
