Sam Dyson DFA'd.

I watched him against the Tigers a week or two ago and he looked dominant. It's hard to understand what his problem is this year. Some team may take on his salary.

Washington springs to mind.

I'd be a little surprised if he gets there, but they are definitely a candidate. I could see Baltimore picking him up.

Jesus. Sorry Term. I'll go sit in the corner and re-evaluate my life. Thanks.

You've been awfully sensitive lately. Is everything okay?

1/3 of the way through the the season, NL offenses have outperformed AL offenses

This has never happened over a full season in the DH era

According to MLB Network. By OPS at least. Not sure if by runs or other stats

According to this link: Who needs a DH the NL is outhitting the AL somehow, it's only based on OPS.

They also note:

"The simplest explanation may be the most accurate one in this case: the pitching is better in the American League. Through Monday, AL hitters have significantly outperformed their NL counterparts in interleague play — .770 OPS to .719. As a result of this, the AL has a 54-39 record when facing NL teams. That .581 win percentage is third-best mark since the leagues began playing one another in 1997."

There are also some decent pitchers in the NL who can hit now though that's likely a tiny part of the equation

Adam Wainwright has an OPS of .864 this year

Kind of weird to think about tbh. Sure, AL has Sale, Kluber, Carrasco, Darvish but you'd think the NL crop is stronger at the top with guys like Kershaw, Scherzer, Syndergaard, Lester, Strasburg, Bumgarner, Cueto, Cole, etc. I guess the AL must have better depth and relief corps.

Apparently overall NL pitchers have a .324 OPS. They do say the AL's left fielders are particularly bad this year, which as a Jays fan I can totally appreciate!

If you drill down into the numbers the difference between the NL and AL is so small it'll probably correct itself by the end of the season anyway.

I really don't understand the argument for pitchers hitting. I mean, even if you enacted the DH rule, they are still free to have their pitchers hit if they'd like. Idk why we must keep pretending it's entertaining to watch a rally die because the 8th hitter gets walked and the pitcher weakly strikes out to end the inning. The only solution is to have pitchers focus more on hitting but that seems like a bad idea given the already huge difficulty that comes with their position.

Damn. His peripherals are puke-inducing this season. >9 FIP, >6 xFIP, and more BB's than K's with a <4 K/9. Yuk..

We don't face him this series but what is up with Tanaka? His xFIP isn't that bad. His Hr/FB is high and so is it his BABIP. Is he just unlucky right now or is something else going on?

Michael Pineda had the same issue the past two years while posting great K/BB and GB rates as well.

Maybe just a combo of bad luck and pitching in unforgiving ball parks

All of his plate discipline stats have improved from last season. Probably just SSS, he'll likely beast in the second half as his luck evens out and I'm sure there will be some narrative about "adjustments"

Sounds like Rodriguez hurt himself during the warmup but pitched anyway. Didn't do well. Now on DL.

Boston having even more trouble from their starting rotation than we are

Volquez 1 out away from a no hitter.

Looks like he sealed it. Pretty impressive against that strong Diamondbacks lineup.
