Having both Morales and Edwin on the roster never made any sense. So while signing Morales did not rule out re-signing EE, it definitely made it less desirable.

The FO basically said that the door was closed on EE when they signed Morales. I wish they would have kept a more open mind when EE signed for as little as he did. Could have made it work for the first season.

Ugh. Plenty of people on this forum and everywhere else were still hopeful that the Jays were going to sign EE even after Morales was signed. This "they signed Morales so that guaranteed EE was out the door" narrative hasn't really shown up until after the Cleveland deal was announced. EE 1B, Morales DH, Pearce LF, Upton/Carrera 4th/5th OF, Smoak benchwarmer was my hopeful roster configuration.

The FO never gave any indication that they wanted EE after signing Morales. They pretty much closed the door on EE when that happened.

Report: Blue Jays have looked into Moss.

Two years ago now ex-President Paul Beeston promised real grass to the fans of Toronto's indoor baseball team. Research at the University of Guelph has hit a dead-end on the grass front, and team officials recently looked into Moss as a potential real organic baseball surface.

"I'm not really sure whose idea it was," said team GM Ross Atkins, "but it was pretty stupid. Who wants to play on moss? It's almost certainly not a viable solution."

Tune into Tim and Sid for more hot takes on the moss news.

Shatkins must be waiting for the market to develop and settle before they do anything further. We've undeniably taken steps back this offseason thus far.

I know, I know, 45 days or whatever it is until spring training starts but as of now our outfield is Pillar, Upton/Carrera/Pompey and potentially Pearce.

I think they are waiting on Jose. If they sign two OF's and then Jose is still without a job by the time spring starts, then they might see the pick starting to slip away. I'd be shocked if Bats isn't signed by some team next month, but that might be the shoe to drop before we see some movement.

I don't know man, it feels to me that they want nothing to do with Jose.

After two straight ALCS appearances and some core still very much intact it doesn't feel much like this team is doing a whole lot to get better and take the next step. It seems awfully disingenuous after the FO talked about the incredible fan support leading to increased spending.

I'm much in favour of not sacrificing the farm to prolong this window so that means they'd have to spend, which they seem very reluctant to do. Instead we debate how much a win is worth and how we can bring in 1 WAR guys to supply surplus value.

One thing is for sure, AA would have been ROASTED had he been at the helm for this offseason so far.

AA was a different beast. Cut from a different mold.

People have criticized them for jumping early on Morales before Edwin's market played out. Even if they don't want Jose back, they can still wait this market out. If Jose signs elsewhere, then they can move on. If he doesn't, and other options do not materialize, then he's a fallback. That's my guess on how they are playing the situation right now.

I get what you're saying, and it could very well be the case, but I hate that this could be the mindset of the FO. Essentially waiting the market out and settling for whatever is left....the table scraps....rather than getting who you want and who you know will move the needle.

The offseason could very well turn around and optimism might reign again but after everything that was said to raise expectations this seems like a case of actions speaking much louder than words.

Report: Jays actively involved in contract negotiations with Jose Bautista.

This F.O has said many times that you do not need a complete team in March. The best time to make a trade is May. Not optimal but I'm not concerned if they only add small pieces from this point.

I agree when it comes to small lineup pieces like a loogy, but when the team has sub 1 WAR players slotted for significant playing time it's a big problem if the goal is to compete.

Did you miss when the FO jumped to sign Morales and Pearce? (For which the media and some fans are grilling them for)

It's also evident they went hard after Fowler

Well they did jump on Morales and Pearce early in the off-season, likely guys they valued and wanted to get right out of the gate, and were vilified for it because they couldn't predict Encarnacion's market crashing a month later. Damned if you, damned if you don't.

Exactly... the f***ing offer was there. Regardless of who misinterpreted the market, the Birds offered 4/80.

They are not being villified. They are being criticized for making a mistake. People on this forum and the media saw that the 1B/DH market was flooded. This wasn't a huge surprise.

It was offered? 4/80

I mean every f***ing sports outlet reported the offer. Lets stop pretending. BTS needs a GM comment, but that isn't happening ever.

Kizler(sp) f***ed up... the Birds f***ed up... it happens.

I never said that a deal wasn't offered. Which of these don't you agree with?

1. We could have not signed Morales and gotten EE for something close to 3/60.

2. Having EE on the roster on that type of deal is more desirable than having Morales for 3/33.

I agree with both of those statements so the only possible conclusion is that they f***ed up.

How did they f*** up, by moving on?

P.S. I love how you ignored, said great offer. Did his crew miss the valuation, obviously. It's a 2 way street man?

If you answer my question, I might better understand your point of view. Right now, all I'm getting is "Shapiro did good because I said so."
