Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 Here are the options: 1) Extend JD for max $$ for 7-8 yrs (you know he will accept nothing less) 2) Let him walk as a FA 3) Trade him for controllable assets There are so many considerations here. Budget - tying down the budget to a limited # of players (Martin, Tulo, JD, EE?) leaving insufficient $$ to field a team without significant holes. Risk that Tulo range will decline and he needs to be moved to 3B? Vlad's prospect grade (A prospect? - anticipated elite, AS level)? Shatkins is going to consider all this and other things we don't know about (JD medical reports), and yes, potential JD replacements including from the farm when making a decision. They wouldnt be doing their job if they didnt. You've back-peddled, this isn't what King is/was replying to? Go...

wamco Verified Member Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 Dodgers would be a possible fit. Donaldson for Turner and Peterson That is stupid. Don't say stupid things
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 I don't sign him for anything right now.
wamco Verified Member Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 So.. to make a super-util you probably need to find a player with talent who's career isn't exactly working out at this point. Someone with warts... a Justin Turner, who hasn't become Justin Turner yet, someone who would be happy to play 125 games at first, second, third and even a bit of outfield just to get another chance to make the most of their talent... and of course that someone would also have to be able to play those positions. I hate to say it but Brett Lawrie may be non-tendered. I said this the other day. Certainly athletic enough to learn lf
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 I don't sign him for anything right now. Why? Just wondering, meat?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 I said this the other day. Certainly athletic enough to learn lf How do you sell him on that, meat?

TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 I think Vlad Jr. ripping up Lansing as an 18 year old would have no consideration what they do with JD. Talk when he starts tearing up AA. You're a dumbass. ...and proves he's a 3B long term.
MunenoriKawasakiMVP Verified Member Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 If Lawrie gets rid of that retarded late hitch in his swing he will be much better count on it.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 ...and proves he's a 3B long term. I've already said this, bro. U suxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 How do you sell him on that, meat? If he gets non tendered would he end up having that many options?? Does he care that much anyway?? I don't remember him kicking up a fuss when they moved him to second for some games in 2014.

wamco Verified Member Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 Actually he complained to the media that he was a 3bman and not a 3b-2b man. So he went along with it but not without the lawrie whining. I think being around tulo and Martin could only be a good thing for him. That and a few cheeseburgers and a new mouth guard.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 Ifs and buts.... c'mon Olerud? I'm the first to admit I have no idea if any of this is realistic... just sayin' that super-utils have to come from players looking to re-establish themselves, like you said a guy like Justin Turner is looking for a full time 3rd base job... I think your point about Jose Ramirez was good... Richard Urena, assuming he keeps on developing could play the same role soon. If Urena is doing well at aa, he may be the logical choice to fill in for an injury... then if he does OK he could transition to super-utl. People will slam me, and say "no way bro, Urena is ss of the future, Shapiro will give him as much time as he needs" Shapiro didn't give Jose Ramirez as much time as he needs, he was called up based on need and performance, and he struggled at times, but he is doing fine this year.

Urena needs an awful lot of refinement at shortstop before anyone anoints him as Tulo 's replacement. He made a careless play or error in almost every game I watched.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 Dave Cameron suggested 5 years $35M AAV right now on the Fan this morning
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 Dave Cameron suggested 5 years $35M AAV right now on the Fan this morning I like those numbers. But would it be on top of the 1 year he's already signed for, the two years of control, or just right now?

But would it be on top of the 1 year he's already signed for, the two years of control, or just right now? So assuming he is at 2/40 for the next two years he is at which makes the other 3 years at 135 Mil. Virtually you are buying 3 years at 45/year

But would it be on top of the 1 year he's already signed for, the two years of control, or just right now? I believe he put it in context of ripping up his current agreement and paying him current market value today - for 5 years. Personally, I like it as we're only investing for his age 31-35 seasons. Get it done.

Virtually you are buying 3 years at 45/year That's probably better than buying 6 years at $30M and paying him for his 36-38 age seasons.
