Should Osuna Start in 2017?

After seeing Sanchez dominate, is Osuna next? He has multiple pitches, nerves of steel. Should the Jays try getting him 150 innings? Maybe start him for 120 innings and transition him to the bullpen to let him finish with 150 or so.

They should make him a starter, it's better use of his talent but they already have 5 solid starters.

Threw 83 innings this year with the playoffs, somehow increase that and prep him for a starter role for 2018 and beyond. He's still only 21 years old,

If I were him I would want to start. But if I did, maybe only after securing some more money. Take an offer to make 35 or 40 million untill you are 30, then you can more afford to go into the more uncharted territory of starting.

He should probably given the chance if he wants it. Hard to ignore a 21 year old with an arm like that with 3 plus pitches who was actually working on a 4th and different wrinkles and variations throughout the season.

 

He's a special talent he just can't be ran into the ground by your manager. Gibbons could have done a much better job of managing his workload especially in back to back scenarios. At times he would get a week to 8 days off. Than pitch 5 of the next 6 nights coming in games we have had more than a 3-run lead.

Voted 3. He's 21, has already had TJS once, and was experiencing shoulder pain this year. He's a red flag to have a short career as is, and doubling or tripling his usage likely exacerbates that.

Biagini, Bolsinger. Osuna would probably (?) be better than those guys, but I love our 5 man rotation. Obviously isn't likely to be better than Sanchez or Stroman. Probably not Estrada. I love Liriano and don't think that's likely. Maybe Happ?

If we needed a rotation arm badly, sure. But we don't. Even if we needed a 5th starter desperately I wouldn't consider him.

 

Although I do find it funny how a lot of people here wanted a guy like Chapman to start back when he was with the reds. It's a bit different when it's your own guy.

Yep, I'll admit to doing that. I really thought Storen could close and Osuna could move to an Andrew Miller type role and pitch longer outings. No I'm not so sure that Osuna has the stamina for that. He's perfect in his current role. As for Storen, he basically sucks.

He wouldn't have to say he doesn't like his job. He could just state a neutral platitude like: "I'm happy doing whatever's best for the team." He's expressed a preference for relieving. There's no reason to think he's being disingenuous.

Given how valuable relievers are now I'm surprised people are still asking the question to move him to the rotation. He probably has more trade value as a top 5-10 reliever than a number 3/4 starter.

TJS history makes upping innings more risky

Our rotation is fine as is. He is doing great where he is so why mess with what works unless of course the team needs him to do so. I say for 2017 at least he is better off in the pen
