Bautista at this stage is a slightly above average DH. I said earlier this year he is easily replaceable.

Shatkins gonna take the pick, replace him. Re-signing Bautista is illogical.

Anyone is a good sign at the right price.

Not true. Would you sign a below replacement level player for any price?

Bautista was hurt not s***. At two years for 30 million, you'd run to him for that. A smart team will get him at like 3/45 and he'll come close to giving value

Given his history, he will continue to be hurt.

Victor got 4/68, I can't see why a team desperate for a big bat wouldn't offer him 4/60 or 3/50.

4 tears for a guy with his injury history is too much of a risk

Certainly. After taking a quick look at the leaderboards, I'd be interested in Derek Norris, Jed Lowrie, and Ben Revere on inexpensive deals.

Anyone would take him at 3/45 in a second. He had a wRC+ of 160 and 148 before this year and even 122 this year was respectable. Watch him bounce back and be a 130 or higher WRC+ the nextfew years as a DH. Not having to play the field will really help his health.

Good point, without his injuries he would prob have had a good season, and if was a DH he wouldn't have got turf toe or a sprained knee.

Bautista on a 1 or 2 year deal would be fine with me. Just stick him at DH.

Anything beyond that would be less appealing.

At what cost... Especially if he can only be relied upon to be a bat.

Given that were a budget team, is trying up +/- $20m on him the best decision?

If Shapiro was bring honest about payroll, we should have plenty to spend, especially on short term deals.

Did he actually come out with a number? I haven't heard anything.

AA used to say that he had full support from Rogers too but we all knew there were "payroll parameters". Part of Shapiro's job is to take all heat off of ownership.

I think we are going to see some responsible spending from the Yankees I really do. They will spend for sure but I think they will spend smarter. Guys like Harper and Machado not EE etc.

He didn't throw out a specific number, but he said we'd be comfortably in the 5-10 range for payroll. That means we should have at least 40 million to spend if you take it at face value.

He said we won't be in the top 5, but should be in the next 5. Opening day, that range was about 126 to 166. The lower end of that results in a sub-0.500 season, and the upper end a playoff contender I think.

Is there a deal to be found involving one of our starting pitchers for Marcell Osuna?

Christian Yelich would even be better ... Miami needs starting pitching so - Stroman + ? for Yelich

Hopefully the ? would not be much

I think we'll be exactly where we have been the past couple of seasons (135-145), which puts you in that range.

So again...if payroll isn't really moving, is Bautista, as a DH, really the best way to spend $20M? I'd be shocked if he returns.

Yelich is better than Stroman, not a pitcher, and controllable for six more years at very cheap rates. I don't see the motivation at all on Miami's end. They need pitching, yes, but they don't exactly have a surplus of outfielders, so opening a hole in the OF to fill one in the rotation doesn't really make them better.

Now isn't the time to trade Stroman. His value was sky high after 2015 but it has definitely taken a dive after this season

Keep in mind that payroll is about 105 million if I remember correctly. Lots of money came off the books. That's about 40 million to spend on 2-3 bats and some relievers.

Not really.. He's proving to be a durable arm and many GMs would also agree that he should be using his four seamer up in the zone and his curve ball more often. He also just had a decent year regardless while pitching in the AL East. He still has great value.

It's at about 117 right now for the current team, including projected arb salaries.
