King Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 This guy came out of nowhere (rule 5) to be one of our best relievers this year http://i.imgur.com/qBD4u8g.png One of my favorite players on the team. And his interviews are amazing. And here are some highlights this year. Originally expected to mop up innings he quickly became a setup man. The one guy on the team who really connects with Barry Davis. Love Biagini!

Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Best Rule 5 pickup of the year? Probably the best rule 5 pick since Joakim Soria.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Best Rule 5 pickup of the year? Without question lol. Certainly better than Joey Rickard but don't tell Orioles fans that. Hes a stud and a steal.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 He's been a really good pen arm. I think the more interesting question is do they transition him back to a starting role next season? He threw 130 inning as a starter in AA in 2015, so it wouldn't be unheard of. As a 5th starter he could easily hit 170 innings with starts skipped here and there. Estrada, Happ, Sanchez, Stroman and Biagini would be your 5 and be inexpensive

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 We still have Liriano though, no? Yup, but Biagini could also start in AAA if Liriano is the 5th starter out of the gate. Since Biagini spent the full year on the 25 man roster, he can be optioned next year.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Giving how much better he became as a reliever, I would just keep him there.

We need to stack up on relievers, but with a backend of Osuna, Grilli and Benoit next year I think we could muster a few arms from here and there to build a decent enough pen. This will be a damn busy offseason for Atkins
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Giving how much better he became as a reliever, I would just keep him there. He would still have the pen as a fallback if his starter results aren't encouraging. I don't think there's much of a downside in starting him at AAA
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 See how Biagini and/or Osuna do with being stretched out. If successful the Jays can trade one of their starters to fill another hole.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Probably the best rule 5 pick since Joakim Soria. Odubel Herrera

candymartinez Verified Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 See no reason why Osuna can't be a starter. Still very young and has multiple plus pitches. Why can't he be a starter?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Roberto Clemente #checkandmate Roberto Clemente is not the best rule 5 pick since Joakim Soria, no

Governator Community Moderator Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Wasn't Josh Hamilton from the same rule 5 draft as Soria?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Yeah I don't think Osuna is going to start, ever. Ship has sailed. I see Biagini starting in AAA as a SP though. Pen arms are easy as hell to find. If they think he has any upside as a starter, then they should see what they got.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Great addition to the pen thanks I don't understand his contract status going forward and BBREF is unclear on it How many more years of control does Toronto have with him?
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 See no reason why Osuna can't be a starter. Still very young and has multiple plus pitches. Why can't he be a starter? Obv you can't say never, but he's our best reliever right now and has been for 2 years. He'd need a full year in AAA, then likely a innings limit in 2018 just to see if he can be an effective starter. It's risky, especially when our strength right now is starting pitching and we already need at least 3 relievers for next season.

And you need to add to it the fact he repeatedly said he prefers to pitch often and be involved in the game on daily basis

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 And you need to add to it the fact he repeatedly said he prefers to pitch often and be involved in the game on daily basis Likes being closer Good at it Gibby likes him there TJS making upping innings more risky 2 years removed from starting 5 good SP options on the team already = No way they even consider him for the starting rotation next year
GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 I would keep Biagini and Osuna in the pen at this point. Osuna needs to be stretched out for 2 years and Biagini was always just mediocre in the rotation but his stuff plays up in the pen. I see nothing wrong with having a couple of good young arms at the back of the pen to anchor the incoming influx of relievers, especially since we already have 5 starters for next year if we count Liriano.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 watch Biagini end up just like Hendriks, shipped away for a piece we don't really need.
