Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Perfect option for a poll. Depends on a lot... When do we lock up home field advantage for the wild card? If we don't have it locked up for the last game Sanchez may pitch against the Red Sox. A lot of variables. Right now likely Happ or Sanchez.
admin Site Manager Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 THe way they've been pitching I'd be fine with anyone starting, even Liriano (though obviously won't be him). 2.59 ERA in his last 7 appearances. This rotation is going to be filthy next year. Pontentially five guys in low 3s ERA.
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 i would be okay with any of them but there's a clear answer here
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 I would go sanchez and then happ for game 1 of the LDS
Governator Community Moderator Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 I'd go Sanchez.... and I think they will. They've lined him up for the last game of the year for a reason, to pitch if they had a chance to win the division and I believe we'll lock up home field advantage for the wild card before that game.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 It's looking like the Tigers, so whoever we feel is better against them. It's hard to look at historical, because JA Happ of the past few years is a whole lot more different than previously. Same with SP Sanchez But Happ has been crushed by the right-handed heavy Tigers Careers #'s: https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/9635/batvspit/?bvsp_id=mlb.t.6 https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8061/batvspit/?bvsp_id=mlb.t.6 I think I'd be more comfortable with Sanchez, even though yesterday his fastball command wasn't all that good.
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Sanchez, Happ, Estrada or Stroman are my guesses.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 You go with the less risky option in Happ, and have Sanchez ready to go and piggy back If you get into a lead early, you switch of to Sanchez and then Osuna. Happ is less risky, Sanchez has had a couple of games where he wasn't right.
JoeCarter Verified Member Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Lol at recency bias after awesome Sanchez start. Stroman please. All day.

Sanchez has the lowest ERA of qualified starters in the AL. Risky business.
Governator Community Moderator Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Lol at recency bias after awesome Sanchez start. Stroman please. All day. Yea, to be honest I'd be okay with any one of Sanchez, Happ or Stroman.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 i have this weird feeling that sanchez will start walking the park at any second. Not really fair but I would be more comfortable with Happ/Stroman/Estrada.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Aaron Sanchez... Gibby said as much on SN when they re-aligned the rotation. http://m.bluejays.mlb.com/news/artic...ild-card-game/ Who do you think would start the Wild Card Game if that's where Toronto finishes? -- Shawn S., Rochester, N.Y. The starter for that game would depend entirely on how the Blue Jays finish the season, but the most likely candidate appears to be Aaron Sanchez. Toronto's rotation is currently lined up to feature Marco Estrada, J.A. Happ and Sanchez, in that order, for the final regular-season series of the year in Boston. Sanchez is tentatively scheduled for the last game on Sunday, Oct. 2, but if the matchup does not matter in the standings, he would be pushed back for Tuesday's potential American League Wild Card Game. If the Blue Jays need to go all hands on deck vs. the Red Sox, then it's possible Estrada could be brought back on three days' rest, but that seems unlikely at this point.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Maybe it is dependant on who we face. if its the Tigers than Sanchez if its the Orioles than Happ, Orioles really struggle against LHP, their team OPS Is .100 points lower against LHP vs. RHP. It gets even worse for them if its LHP and an away game. Tigers on the other hand have even splits against both. Most likely Tigers will get the second WC, I cant see them losing a game in Hotlanta, meanwhile Yankee stadium could be tough for the Oreos.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Sanchez to start the Wild Card game. If the Jays are up in the ALDS, or have a chance to take a lead during game three I go to Sanchez in the 8th inning. This is on the assumption that Benoit is out.
BTS Community Moderator Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Sanchez vs. Verlander sounds like a whole lot of fun.
ChrisS Verified Member Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Happ or Sanchez vs Baltimore, Sanchez vs the RHH Detroit. He has really good splits vs RHH. 3 HR, 19 BB, 29 ER in 93.2 IP vs RHH. Against LHP Baltimore sports a .692 OPS

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 It should probably be Sanchez starting, with Happ and Stroman available out of the bullpen if need be.

BTS Community Moderator Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Someone just brought this up in a FG chat, but the Orioles are probably a lot more dangerous if they turn the WC into a bullpen game. Something like: Bundy - 2-3 innings Givens - 1-2 innings Brach - 1-2 innings O'Day - 1-2 innings And then Britton 2 innings to close it out. That would be very, very tough.
ChrisS Verified Member Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Hasn't Estrada been really good against Baltimore? He could be an option too Im just not sure which Estrada we would get, he hasnt been consistent the last couple of months because of his back. It would be taking a risk putting a flyball pitcher out there at Rogers center vs the HR mashing Os imo
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 If the Jays need Sanchez for game 162, it'll be Stroman. If the last game has no implications it'll be Sanchez... simple. Happ is starting Saturday night.

Agreed No need to move anyone up a day but would definitely bump Sanchez back a game if you have the opportunity And we have 4 good options which is a nice position to be in. Given my total free choice I'd pick Sanchez or Happ anyway

Starter longevity is over-considered in playoff matches. The manager needs to remember he's not worrying about tomorrow's shifts anymore.
BTS Community Moderator Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Showalter would actually consider this wouldn't he I'd say he's probably one of the most likely. If Gausman can't go, they should do this. Even if Gausman can go, they should tell him he has 4-5 innings and then the pen is taking over.
