JoeCarter Verified Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 I know it's trendy around here to assume we're gonna win the division going away. (Fangraphs and BP's models give us a 56% chance of doing just that.) That being said, the WC is obv a rather distinct possibility. Set aside the issue of how a WC game would set the staff up for a 5-game ALDS series - only Q here is who starts for you in a 1-game WC game where you need a win. Dickey not an option because baseball.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 I think i'll take Stroman This isn't last year. So Sanchez or Happ. We better win the division.
AdamLindsMom Verified Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 This isn't even a relevant question. The season ends on a Sunday and the WC game is on the Tuesday. It's not like you can just pick any of your 5 (or 6) pitchers.

He struggled a bit in his first dozen starts or so, it was very un-Stroman like. I know this is cherry picking numbers but i think his utter dominance in the last dozen starts is closer to his true talent, and the HR/FB% is genuinely bad luck imo. I think he's more likely than Sanchez to give you an utterly dominant 6-7 innings on a given day.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 If Martin is game calling, then Stroman. Otherwise, Sanchez or Happ.

It's not like you can just pick any of your 5 (or 6) pitchers. 1) It's a theoretical question. Play along and stop being pedantic. 2) If it becomes clear that we're going to get the WC and not the division title, you bet managers can hold pitchers back to pitch in the WC. We're not just going to run guys out there as per usual, and then say: "Oh, it's Liriano's turn in the rotation. Darn!"

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Should have done a....who starts Game 1 of our playoff series.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 It's between Happ and Stro for me. Both have been phenomenal as of late.
Governator Community Moderator Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Whoever is the hottest in the last week. It also depends on many factors. If winning the last game of the season against the Red Sox decides the the division title we'd prefer our best throwing in that game regardless of WC.

mellowgold Verified Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 The fact that we've had three different names mentioned multiple times is pretty awesome. Up until his last two starts, there would have likely been some votes for Estrada as well.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 I would start Sanchez in a perfect world.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 There is a good chance that someone voted for someone in this thread and they will in a month vote for the same person to be left off of the post season roster.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Stro But ask me again in a month's time

Very true. But since it's all hypothetical I'm still going to play along and go with Happ.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 The pitcher who's lined up for the start. Duh...
STLJaysFan Verified Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Make it a bullpen game, start Feldman!!
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 Price and Verlander Excellent...
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 I'd vote for Dickey. Seek immediate medical attention.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 The fact that Jays have 3 legit options is amazing. I like my chances with Sanchez assuming he's still the same as before, but leaning towards Stroman cuz he's been stellar post-all star and he's started in the playoffs before. I trust the infield and stro induces a lot of ground balls.

Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
